What schools should I look at?

Hey, I'm back. I am hoping to go into engineering but I am not exactly sure which subset. I am also considering Computer science. I was hoping you guys could take a look at my first attempt at a list of colleges to apply to and give me some feedback and/or suggest some more schools. A lot of these schools are reaches :/

UW GPA : 3.6
W GPA :4.4
I know its low, but its upwards trending (hopefully that helps a little). 6 APs The rest mainly Honors.
Top 10%

ACT --- Single Sitting
- 36 Math
- 34 English
- 31 Reading
- 31 Science
--- 33 Composite

ACT --- Superscored
- 36 Math
- 34 English
- 34 Reading
- 34 Science
--- 35 Composite

EC:
Volleyball
-Fresh and Soph Captain
-Varsity starter 11+12 and team awards/records
-Team nationally Ranked by ESPN Rise, peaked at 13th in the nation (my name was mentioned :) )
-2nd place finish at Junior Olympics
Mu Alpha Theta
Scholastic Bowl 11th grade
Math Tutoring in 11th+12th
Mathletes 12th
Science Club 12th

Colleges (additional info on school)

Brown (Superscores?)
Cornell
Georgia Tech (Superscores)
MIT (Superscores-ish and Hoping to play volleyball here. Would getting recruited for volleyball help here?)
Northwestern (In-state)
Purdue (Superscores?)
UIUC (Sister went there, instate)
University of Iowa (safety?)
University of Michigan
University of Wisconsin

I am looking for feedback on the current schools, like which ones to take off ect. or additional schools to add to the list. If you could give me any advice or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I attend UIUC for Agricultural & Biological Engineering. I really like it. I also looked at Stanford and Rose-Hulman, so that may be of some interest.

Alright Thank MidwestPride! … anyone else?

Try looking at CMU. UIUC is well known for their engineering and comp sci, so you have a great match there. Of course, if you get recruited for volleyball, then you’ll have a great chance at some of the more selective schools.

Thanks! anyone else?

Caltech, MIT, and Cornell. All strong in engineering.

Okay Thanks! Anyone else? … People in the chance section were saying not to even apply to schools like MIT because there was literally no chance :/

Engineering people like lists and numbers, so here it goes:

bump… thanks for the links… anyone else have anything to input?

I disagree with the people in the Chances forum. They probably don’t know much about athletic recruiting, in any case. Talk to the coaches at MIT and maybe Cornell or Northwestern (although they may already have their rosters set) and you could potentially receive help in admissions. I would also advise you to maybe take a look at Johns Hopkins, Georgia Tech, or Purdue if you are interested in engineering. Good luck!

Thanks! I am actually going to go visit Purdue on Wednesday

I don’t think you need to superscore at Purdue, you have a pretty high chance . Northwestern is a private university, so they don’t care about being instate. Your GPA, might be a little to low for MIT. If I were you, I wouldnt apply to Brown because the engineering and Computer Science program isnt the best. It’s really cool that your VolleyBall Team was ranked 13th in the NATION. Another school to recommend is University of Washington and UC Berkley. GOOD LUCK!

Will your weighted GPA be on your transcript?

Are you looking to play volleyball at places other than MIT? (I don’t mean intramurals)

Are your parents willing to pay $55k+ per year wherever you go? If not, how much will they pay?

At Purdue, you might get about a $9k scholarship which would bring the cost down to the low $30’s.

What else do you want in a school?
