What does Vanderbilt have about it that dispels any notion of mine that it is filled with the preppiest of collegekind?

Anything that counters the preppyness?

Sorry WHY should I apply.

You want to dispel your assumptions? Go visit the campus and hang out around the engineering buildings. You might spot my son. That should do it.

Really, is this word ‘preppy’ ever going to die?

Several sources tell me that people sport popped collars and polos.

I am also a prospective student, and I was just down at Vanderbilt visiting/auditioning at Blair over this past weekend. My mom and I were fully prepared for polos, debutantes, “snobby people,” etc, but we were very pleasantly surprised with everything we saw. I don’t go there so maybe someone who does will have a different opinion, but everyone seemed very well put together but not in your face rich. I saw many girls in sweatpants and pajamas. The facilities are also gorgeous! The new freshman housing looks great, and I don’t know what you want to major in, but Blair’s concert halls are beautiful. The student support seems great too; someone was having a junior cello recital and they got a good crowd, including a lot of students.

Yeah maybe there are people with polos, but who cares? I found that most people were casually dressed, and like I said, most of my preconceptions about the school seemed to be either hugely played up or not true.

I personally loved the school, and everyone I met was very friendly and helpful. Hopefully you can go check it out too, because it really made a difference for me!

Visiting Vandy= <3.
Reason why i went EDII for it

I’m pretty sure popped collars are dying out. That was more of a thing when I was in high school, maybe a freshman at Vandy. I can’t recall seeing that many day to day. Lots of people wear polos but polos in general are popular for college students across the US.
