What should I do about college.

MTSU Burning Out

As a fellow Tennessean, I have to tell you something...

You need to get on the ball ASAP!

Obviously, there is something holding you back. You need to find someone to speak with over at MTSU, and then plan things from there. MTSU has a fine reputation and I figure that the Student Health Services Folks could help you out and then you could just go part time for the fall.

You live where things are a lot nicer than you are letting on.

I live in a suburb outside of Memphis, Tn. So, I cannot quite take your making your schooling and where you live into being something dreadful.

Seriously. Come to Memphis for a day and see the crap here. We are a bankrupt city, man. I moved here to go to a private University on a full academic scholarship and after my first semester, I worked extra hard to become a flipping commuter student because there are ladies who work the street corners and drug dealers and the like right outside the road my University is on. Do you understand what I am saying?

You have it a lot easier than you are letting on. There is something within you which is holding you back. I am not trying to be a mean lady and I am sorry if I am coming off like that. I am just saying that you have to straighten up and find someone to help you.

I have vibes that you are not accepting your full potential as a scholar at as fine a school as MTSU and I think that is rather pitiful.

No doubt Memphis is worse.....I almost go crazy around here where it is hard enough to go to a local walmart without some begger coming up to you and I'm only in a city of 10,000 outside of Murfreesboro. Downtown Nashville or Memphis? I'd be insane haha. My place is just boring as hell, not really dangerous

MTSU,
Finish college. It could be that you don't like school in general and that you could find the work-world to be more exciting. Get through the next two years and you lose nothing save time. If the job you get after that is really dull you can always go and pickup a trade. It’s hard to regret getting a degree. College may not be the road for everyone, but if you can finish college it will only help you (considering there is no direct financial cost, just opportunity cost). The job you get with the degree could also be flexible and provide you with the time to pursue something unrelated to work that you enjoy. Lastly, college is an excellent place to find a partner if all else fails.

Why don't you care about money? I'm not talking about fancy cars and mansions, I'm saying FREEDOM. I'm an older student (22 yrs. old sophmore) who realized that to get out of the hood I needed money and an exit plan! Menial work blows if you have the aptitude for more. I don't think skilled trades count as menial work, by the way, but they aren't suited for all people, even if the money is decent. I'm just not good at making things with my hands.

I'm lucky that I found something that is both interesting to me and somewhat lucrative (economics/math), but even if I didn't have a particular passion, I'd still take accounting and get my CPA. Why? Because being an accountant is boring, but it offers more freedom than being a sales clerk.
