What should I do?!?

I have recently gained a true interest in anything and everything to do with film. Unfortunately, I feel as if it's a little late in the game for me. I'm a junior in high school, which means college is two years away, and unlike all these other people I see on CC I haven't written a 100-page long screenplay or directed my own mini-series. My passion has always been writing, so I have written many short stories and have been working and a screenplay. Anyways, the point is: is it too late? I really would like to major in Film/Cinema Studies but I am not sure how I would measure up to those who have been interested in film for YEARS. I also am hoping to attend a screenwriting program over the summer but again, I feel very inexperienced. So, should I pursue my dream of working in the film interesting, or continue on to a broader education area like journalism and then try to fit film in somewhere on the side? Granted I show my true passion, could I be competitive for schools like USC and NYU (Critical/Cinema Studies) even if I haven't been working towards that goal forever? I usually would go the safe route but I am not sure......

Calm down. It's not even close to being too late.

From what I hear, it is graduate school that is where you should be looking at top film schools. There is a college search book on film schools and it gives you details on why it isn't as important where you go undergrad. If you really want to get your hands on the equipment as soon as possible, you should look at the availabilty of the equipment to undergrads rather than the rep of the film department. You would be surprised at the smaller, unknown schools that allow the most exploration and use at the undergraduate level. Where the rep is, often comes from the grad program, and the undergrads are severely restricted in getting their paws on the resources.
