What should I put as a Major on my college apps?

I want to study film production, but I want to wait until I finish my GEs. How do I get into a school like USC, NYU, and Chapman, so that I can later do an internal transfer into their film programs? What is the best major to put down that will increase my chances of getting into the school? How would I go about including a few film production classes into my schedule during those two years? I currently don’t think I have the skill or creativity to get into their film programs, but I think with time and a few classes I will definitely be able to. Please don’t say, “We can’t determine your chances…”, because I know you can’t. I just want an honest opinion on how you think I should carry out this plan. What major to put on the college app? I was think a communications or journalism major, something that will still help me with film production even if I don’t get into the program later on. What minor to put? And do you think it will even work?

Not quite sure about Chapman, but both USC and NYU are extremely competitive film schools. That being said, yes, writing down a different major will raise your chances of getting in. BUT for a competitive major/college, internal transferring will not be easy, let alone, guaranteed. So if you are completely sure about going into film, I wouldn’t recommend risking signing up for a different major and not being able to switch. But if you do have another major you have also considered, go for it!
