Hey everyone,
I’m an incoming freshman at Vandy, and I was wondering what organizations I should join at Vandy since I want to be involved on campus.
I’m probably joining Commodore Orchestra (VCO) since I played in an orchestra back in high school, but I was just wondering if anyone could give suggestions about other amazing campus orgs. Thanks so much!
There are over 500 organizations on campus, and each one of them is unique in its own way. I recommended going to the student org fair (on Commons) early on in the semester, signing up for things you might like, and then narrowing the list down. Also, you can join many organizations in subsequent semesters too, so you have a lot of flexibility. There isn’t an organization you should join, but some of the bigger ones like VSG, VUcept, Tour Guides, and VPB are more prominent. Most organizations have open memberships, but some have formal applications that open up later in the fall or early in the spring.
I recommend joining Harmonies for the Elderly! They use music therapy to combat Alzheimer’s disease at local Nashville nursing homes. This is a great opportunity to form long-term relationships both with fellow ensemble members and the elderly residents. ^Harmonies for the Elderly is a good one. The ensembles are a good size to get plugged into a community and meet people!
