What subject to choose?

I'm wondering if colleges (specifically Cornell University, College of Arts and Sciences, if you know about that particular area) would prefer to see okay SAT II grades in subjects I hope to pursue in college (I want to double major in French and Physics) or better scores in less relevant subjects. I can't take the Physics one, since my schedule has never allowed me to take Physics at any level, but this is my 3rd year of French, and I excel in the class. Having taken the practice SAT II French test, I'm not sure if I could get close to 800, considering I was unfamiliar with some of the vocabulary. Would my choosing other subjects for my 2 required tests reflect poorly on me, compared to taking French plus an irrelevant test, even if I got higher scores?

Anybody have any advice? It can just be general advice for any college, but obviously if someone knew about Cornell in particular, that’d be nice.

bump At this point, I think I’ll do history for one, so now I just have to decide if I want to try French…

If your questions are Cornell specific, why not contact Cornell? They have no reason to keep their admissions policies a secret and would be happy to talk to you. Any replies you receive to this thread would be guessing compared to a direct conversation with the college.

Really I’m just looking for a general guideline and opinions, such as what have other people done. If you were going for pre-med, but weren’t sure you had enough biology background to take the Biology SAT II, did you do something else, or did you take the chance, etc.

Why would you care what other people have done? They may have been right or wrong in deciding what to do. Cornell will give you the correct information.
