What the heck am I?

I'm a U.S. citizen studying abroad. I've been in China for about 7 years, and now, preparing to apply to several U.S. colleges, I am facing the most difficult question I have encountered in some time.

WHAT THE HECK AM I?

Am I a domestic student, or an International student? Or will I be a domestic student who's application will be read by the admissions officer who usually reads international applications?

Can anyone tell me what normally happens in situations like this and which colleges diverge from the norm?

(This is the biggest identity crisis I've ever had)

You are a Domestic student for financial aid purposes.

How each college/university you apply to handles your transcript is up to them. You need to contact them and ask. If you have been attending schools where English is not the language used in instruction, you will almost certainly need to include TOEFL scores with your applications.

If you have been attending an “International School” that follows the US model, the guidance office surely has had experience with students like you and can give you a hand with the whole process.
