What to bring vs what to ship?

Colorado, my kiddo did NOT store her stuff at her college. She and her friends found a storage place. There were MANY from which to choose. I will venture that this can be done in most places. I would further say…most colleges do not have summer storage on campus.

The LAC where my D and S went to had an agreement with a local storage company. They would deliver the portable units to campus a few days before finals. Several students could share the cost of a unit, they were then removed to a climate controlled building. I had visions of my daughter and her friends unit falling apart during transport! I can’t believe the amount of items they packed into it. The college also had “tag sale” dorm days and Good Will representatives were there with huge trailers for donations.

Weigh the suitcases at home. DS had to repack at the airport because one bag was over 50lbs.

He took a pair of washed sheets with him. Other stuff was either purchased on line and shipped to the dorm, or purchased at a nearby Target. They also had an organized Target run as part of orientation the first week. For some things, it’s better to wait and buy after they’ve seen the room.

“Colorado, my kiddo did NOT store her stuff at her college. She and her friends found a storage place.”

I didn’t necessarily mean on campus. Yes, I know there are storage places. But it can be difficult getting the stuff there from some colleges (especially on an urban campus, where few students have cars - think Boston). There are some services (pricey but sometimes worth it) where storage companies will do pickup. It’s worth doing research ahead of time to understand the options at and near that particular college.
