As my Junior year quickly approaches, I was looking on my school’s rival school’s website because I was bored. My school is only three years old and is one of the top public schools in my state. However, as I looked on our rival’s site, I noticed they had a lot more AP classes offered at their school, such as Computer Science, Comparative and US Government, etc. I understand that my school is a new school, but do you think I should talk to my principle about the possibility of adding a few new AP classes next year or something, provided funding allows it and all of that good technical stuff? He’s relatively understanding and a nice person overall. I could take these classes online probably, but I feel, for myself and some of my friends agree, AP content is better taught in a classroom. Just wanting some suggestions. Thanks.
There’s no harm in asking, but starting a new AP class is more complicated than just talking to your principal and him okaying it. He’d have to a find a teacher to teach each new AP class and the teacher would have to do a lot of work to prepare for the class and meet College Board’s requirements. These are the steps to start a new class: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/html/how-to-start-an-ap-course/how-to-start-an-ap-course.html.
