What to expect? RD Admissions

I'm freaking out. I want to be at Scripps so badly.

Working against me:
-I have not taken any AP's (was scheduled to take three in my junior year but then switched to one of the top private schools in Connecticut...admission to AP classes is difficult)
-Junior year, earned a bunch of C's
-Have had no communication with the school (discovered it late, live on opposite coast)
-Low scores on SAT I: (no tutoring, taken in senior year) CR- 720, W- 680, M- 530

In my favor:
-Earned mostly A's first semester this year (one B+)
-Recommendations should be very good
-Passionate about my extracurriculars (leads in school shows, won Shakespeare monologue contests, honorable mention in national poetry contest, modern dance at school, tutor Spanish-speaking immigrants, founded environmental club in 9th grade, found unpaid internships in 9th and 10th grade summers)
-Diversity? East coast, half-African, Jewish, live with single mother, low-income

I realize that I'm competing for a place against a group of amazingly talented young women and that admission is becoming increasingly selective...Is it ludicrous to expect anything but rejection?

No, it is by no means “ludicrous to expect anything but rejection.” Your stats will work against you, but since you are a minority AND low-income, they will be more likely to overlook low SATs. Your extracurriculars look good, I think whether or not you are admitted will really depend on your essays and what the admissions reps are looking for. Good luck:)

It seems like you’re pretty aware that your application has both strengths and weaknesses. Just try to keep an even keel and ride out the remaining time before notification without getting too excited or pessimistic. You won’t know until you know.

Just remember that you will have an amazing time and amazing opportunities wherever you go next year. And if you already have some acceptances under the belt, take the time to get excited and obsessive about those (so you don’t compulsively check your email instead). Good luck. :)

yay for the fellow Jew!!
im in the same freaking out boat.
did you apply to pitzer?
