Hi, I'm going to have a Harvard interview. What should I know about Harvard? I mean...what are some things about its academic structure, options, etc. that I should know? I guess I just applied just...like why not? And I don't know what these is to know about Harvard. What is unique about its educational structure, if anything?

What are some questions to ask my interviewer?

I don’t mean to pick on you, but, ummm… seriously? In the age of the internet, it boggles my mind that students do not understand how to do basic research (or may they know how, they are just too lazy). You have the internet at your fingertips. Surely, you can find you way to Harvard’s web page and do some basic research? Right? Presumably you are highly-motivated and intelligent, or you wouldn’t be considering elite schools, so surely you know how to find answers to these questions. I mean, what do you think will happen when you get to college?

I understand that I can look things up on the internet. My question is, what to look up. When I research Harvard, I seem to get articles and information about the name and financial aid, etc. rather than what it’s like to be a student there. What the academics are like, what makes them different. What kind of things should I be finding out?

I’m snarky because I’m almost 59 years old; I went college with a slide-ruler and a manual typewriter, I didn’t grow up in the age of computers or the interweb . . yet, somehow I figured out what to google. A 17 year old should easily be able to out-do an old fuddy-duddy like me!

When I think of how much research I put into finding my EA school, how much I would love it there, and the thought and energy that went into my app, posts like this upset me. Where do ya’ll get the money to blow $80 because “why not?” Jeeez.

Yale’s better than harvard anyway :). At least that board isn’t filled with this stuff.

Well…You should find out why you would want to attend Harvard beside the Prestige. When your interviewer asks why Harvard: Why not? might not be the most appropriate response. If there is nothing that fascinates you, it is most likely not the right school for you. And they have TONS of information on their website. :)
