what to put for parents income?

My dad is a construction worker and he's self employed. On his tax papers it says his total income is 38,000 but he buys all of the supplies like wood and stuff and tools so I guess those are his expenses and then it goes down to 16,000 which is what he brings home and can use on bills or food or whatever. The application I'm doing right now asks for "parents gross annual income" so do I put 38,000 or 16,000? My mom doesn't work.

Gross income would be the raw amount of how much he makes, before taxes, before buying supplies, anything. would be 38k in your case I believe.

okay thank you!!

Are u confusing gross income w business revenue?

@gmtplus7 probably I really don’t know. I do handle all of my parents financial matters but tax stuff just confuse me. I don’t understand why if he uses half of his income on tools then why would colleges look at the before number?

Ask your GC for help. That’s what they are there for.
