Well i want to go to school for accounting, but i have no choice but to start out in community college for financial reasons. I hear all the time that you should take non-majors courses because they matter less. Community college professors usually have masters while at the university they have their phd. That being said what should i take then? I was thinking of just majoring in accounting at the community college and then transferring. But i don't get it now. thx

This will differ a lot based on each individual situation. Best bet is to look into the college or colleges you plan to transfer to and see what their requirements are for the accounting degree. Some will have specific classes you have to complete before applying to the college of business to go for the accounting degree, some will have less requirements, some will require just a few specific classes. You have to look at their degree requirements for the accounting degree. We can’t answer that.

hey thx imma look into that. but should i also take accounting classes? I don’t want to transfer to a 4 year school and not know nothing about it.

at my university, we take two accounting courses and one marketing course in the first two years. Thats for every business major; econ, marketing, accounting, finance, whatever. then you go to the college of business and specialize and take more classes more specific to your field of study. at your university it could COMPLETELY different. sorry, but this is just something you have to look up for each specific university.

lol ok… im looking at colleges and universities in new jersey. i hope i can get situated thx anyways

Anything you really fear you should take at a community college. So if you think your writing skills suck or you really doubt you can get an A in Speech…take that there. If you need a high CC GPA to get into a university, reserve those classes for your last semester after you’ve already sent in your apps. Better to get a C in Speech or calculus at a CC than at your final university.

i do have college credits even though im going to community college. English composition 1 and 2, u.s history, effective speaking, computer science, college math, ethics, world literature, psychology. some of these should transfer, right? lol especially the speech class. i hated that class, but i got an A- in it.

Try to take all the core classes at a CC. BTW, listen to Jonah, his advice is perfect.

i appreciate all the comments, thx!

take financial accounting and managerial accounting, ace both of them
take calculus, statistics, and ur set.
