No need for a long coat...just make sure you get one long enough to cover your tush...

a huge north face arctic parka

good snow boots

lots of layers

but keep in mind that it only really got cold around the 2nd week of october (like getting no higher than the high/low 50s)

I'm from California and 30 degrees is enough to make me want to kill myself. I wear all the long underwear and gloves/scarves in what you consider 'mild weather.' lol. :) Any survival tips for people like me?

Invest in a good, warm coat, hat, gloves and waterproof boots....and a bus pass...haha

Freshmen get free bus passes. Waterproof shoes are a necessity. If you think you'll have problems with the cold, just have a heavy coat and wear layers. But the temperatures don't sink below 10F very often, and when they do it only lasts for a few days. It's not really that cold here, between 20s to mid 30s on a typical winter day.

oh yeah...forgot the freshman don't have to buy a bus pass...lucky them....although I did get to enjoy a free pass for two years...hehe

HAHAHA Sorry, I just wanted to point out "it's not really that cold, between 20 to mid 30s". Right now, it's 52 degrees in NorCal, and I think it's COLD. Of course, I'm also just wearing a short sleeve shirt with a pair of sweats... But I just wanted to say that for people in places like Cali, 20 to mid 30s is VERY COLD. It's weather that we have at Tahoe, and Tahoe for us is like.. SNOW GEAR TIME! xD

I don't really mind the cold though; I rather miss the changing seasons that I used to enjoy back on the East Coast.

Dang, in florida we start to freeze / wear jackets when it dips into the 60s

SEE? exactly my point. :D

Put matters into perspectives, and Cornell can be hot (if you're from Alaska I guess), mild (from NY area), cold (from Cali or such areas), or freezing (if you're from Florida or Texas or something). xD

hahah. dude do kids from alaska really go to cornell? do they even exist? i have no idea how i would react if i met an alaskan.

lol...there are alaskans here...I've met some throughout my time here

azhao525: tahoe is VERY COLD. lol. i can't even imagine a colder place.

There are at least two Alaskans in the class of 2011 lol.

oh that's wicked! I wanna meet Alaskans! I bet their shopping list revolves around "lighter" clothing.

As for farahe221, there are places colder than Tahoe. For example, Alaska. Tahoe is actually pretty mild. It's just cold because there's lots of snow and you get wet and then you pretty much stay cold until you're dry again. haha xD

and Antarctica of course.. but, how many kids are gonna be applying to Cornell from there? I bet if anyone did, they would get in in a heartbeat. It's like, "life experiences: Got lost in the snow and had to find my way home through the blizzard." Cornell Admin-Board would be like "ZOMG. SCREW ALL SAT SCORES AND GPA, THIS KID IS IN."

Heehee, I'm just kidding. Don't move to Antarctica just because I said that. :)

haha...if you change that line from getting in to Cornell to getting into any med school b/c I lived in Antarctica...I would go there in a heartbeat...haha

I'd wear my swimming trunks.

Speedos you mean?

I'd just like to say that the weather was especially brutal today. And it's -11 right now, without the wind chill.

Myarmin: when does spring start? It's already 75 degrees here!

see...it's cruel. The weather is usually not great until Cornell Days....we have beautiful weather for Cornell Days (except for last year) and then it's not warm again until May......or so it seems

haha
