To clarify she started the organic division of Newman’s Own which Paul had started himself a few years prior. (Hence the image of the two of them on Fig Newman’s etc.)
@chemmchimney I didn’t read your post carefully enough. I have heard that younger people only know Paul Newman from those products, and I leapt to an unwarranted conclusion. Good thing I did, though, because I caused @Sue22 to post that picture. I have to tell you, he still looked pretty darn amazing 30-something years later. He looked exactly like Paul Newman!
@chemmchimney So any recollection what Paul Newman wore for move in??
Paul Newman died in 1988? Huh. I never knew that. His greatest role was playing Reggie Dunlop in Slapshot.
I think a lot of Cool Hand Luke fans would disagree. I’d also put the Verdict in contention, or possibly his role in The Color of Money, for which he received an Oscar.
@korab1, 2008
The Sting was best as it was a two-fer for those of us who just can’t decide between Newman and Redford. In tuxes no less. Sigh. They just don’t make 'em like that anymore.
I didn’t especially like “The Way We Were,” as I recall, but one moment from it has always stayed in my mind: when Streisand comes upon Redford asleep (passed out?) in dress whites and gives a little gasp that surely did not require any acting skill at all.
@AppleNotFar Alas, I was not at drop off but my sister was most in awe of Mr. Newman’s driving skills, and by in awe I mean terrified! He was a professional race car driver in addition to looking good in jeans. Very “normal” family and it’s sad to read in Vanity Fair that his children were cut out of the food businesses seemingly against their father’s wishes. But we digress.
I’m sorry but do we even know what OP ended up wearing for drop off?
What did she wear? And now the bigger question, what to wear to parents weekend?
Thank goodness I live in Maine, where people don’t care what you wear.
I care
@queenmother I motion for a thread on that.
