I know that Harvard accepts November SAT scores for EA although it is strongly recommended that applicants submit October SAT scores. I took the SAT in October and I got a 2270 which is not good enough for Harvard so I plan to retake it in November with the hopes of getting a 2350. So far, I took the SAT twice. My first score was 2240, my second score was 2270, and my superscore is 2290. Do you think it would be good to take the SAT in November as a standby tester?

Who said 2270 isn’t good enough for Harvard? That’s just about average for Harvard admits. Another 80 points or so on your SAT might help a little, but only a little – and odds are you won’t improve by 80 points on your third try.

With scores at that level, it will be other factors (grades/class rank, recommendations, EC’s and essays) that make the difference. Personally, I doubt it’s worth it to take the SAT again.

A 2270 SAT is indeed good enough for Harvard!

Harvard SAT M Middle 50%: 700-790
Harvard SAT CR Middle 50%: 690-800
Harvard SAT W Middle 50%: 710-800

A 2270 will put your application into the pile that will absolutely be reviewed. But Harvard is not a meritocracy; having a better or near perfect SAT score will not bring you closer to acceptance. Why? Because the SAT’s are only one part of the application. Equal weight – and sometimes more weight – is given to your transcript, course selection rigor, teacher recommendations, Guidance Counselor SSR Report, essays and extracurricular activities. You’ve got to have the whole package to recieve an acceptance letter.

So, to answer your question: You’ve taken the SAT twice with a 2270 at one sitting and a 2290 superscore. There is no need to take it again in November. If you have not sent in your application already, concentrate on your essays – that is what is going to set you apart from other applicants with similar test scores and grades.

I definitely don’t think you need to retake it anymore. Rather, concentrate on your academics and college application now.

The replies have been very helpful.

Can I ask a question(I don’t mean to be selfish by invading this thread)? I got a 31 on the ACT (yeah, I know…), so I’m very concerned that I’ll get thrown in the reject pile when they see that, especially since I don’t have a hook or anything. I have 2 solid SAT II scores and am scheduled to take two more. If I do well on these two, will this help my academic standing by showing achievement in a variety of subjects, or will the poor performance on the ACT override that? Does anyone know the answer through personal eperience?

*experience

mine is not any better, don’t worry about it.
Harvard will not throw u into reject pile JUST becuz u got 31

Harvard ACT Composite: 31-34
Harvard ACT English: 32-35
Harvard ACT Math: 31-35

With a 31 ACT, your application will not be put in the reject pile. That being said, at any college, the lower accepted scores are most often thought to be from recruited athletes.
