What wisdom do you wish you'd known coming into High School

Uh, why would you cut school every Wednesday?

Makes the week shorter.

dont let others belittle you...dont care what others think - do what you think is right and dont be afraid to stand up for yourself

also. for freshman girls: not that i would expect this from a CCer, but don't act slutty. it will not make you cool or popular, upperclass girls will dislike you, and you will lose the respect of many people before you even meet them.
don't wear excessive makeup or show a lot of skin, and basically don't act idiotic with guys.

first, to go with unwritten02: freshmen girls, please don't wear a mini skirt and tank top when its 10 degrees outside and then complain about how cold it is. of course its cold, its january, and the school's heating system will never make it feel like hawaii no matter how much you wish it did.

to my list:
1. relax. its fine to care about your grades, but please don't stress over a bad grade on a test or essay. it's done, you can't change it. so just tell yourself that you'll study more next time and get on with your life.

have fun. it's my senior year now, and my brother told me before he went back to college to enjoy my senior year of high school because it only happens once (unless you're a super-senior, but that's another story). so far i've taken his advice and its been great.

don't be afraid of completely and totally embarassing yourself in front of a lot of people at least once. last tuesday, i was walking to my locker, the carpet edge got wedged between my foot and my flip-flop, and i fell flat on my face. as a freshman, i probably would have died on the spot, but as a senior, i couldn't get up i was laughing so hard.

make friends a lot of different people. you may not want to be friends with the seniors or anyone older than you, but sometimes they make it more fun. yeah, it sucks when they leave, but then you have friends at college, and you can always go visit. a lot of my best friends are older than me, and i wouldn't have it any other way.

please don't believe that first impressions are always correct. take the time to get to know someone. this goes for reputations too. i only believe someone's reputation if a very good friend of mine has had personal experience with that person's reputation. example: boys reputation is that he has hooked up with a lot of girls and never stays with any of them. i only believe this if he has hooked up with one of my best friends and never seen her again. it happened.

have fun, even if you think you look stupid. its okay to have a dance fest with your friends while walking to 4th hour, who cares what other people think.

rejection is always better than regret. just something i've always lived by. this goes for anything. want to go to homecoming with that cute guy? ask him! its better for him to say no than to regret it later when all you can think about is "what if he said yes?"

yeah.... i'm done, sorry its kinda long

This is definitely a good one, because you're always going to have that dream college you want to go to, but you think you'll never get in no matter what so you don't even bother, but then you would never know, so...

The first day of school counts. Quite a bit too. Dress and look your best. Act cool, don't act scared. And pretend you've known everyone forever. Just talk to people before class -- just a little chat. But don't force anything.
Act like you own the world -- but don't act snobby! Be very nice, but also be very confident.

one thing i REALLY wish i would have know is.. DON'T TRY TO PLEASE EVERYONE.

heres a quote from Bill Cosby, "I don't know the key to success but I know the key to failure is trying to please everybody."

Ah and if you don't know where your classes are on the first day, make sure you find someone who does -- preferably not a mean/sly looking upperclassman who will most likely lie so you get lost

Laugh at your mistakes.

They're too late to change, too small to obsess over.

I did that as a freshman ^o-

I did that as a transfer junior year! I was walking around with my schedule asking people where my classes were. Took me a while to get rid of the cute-lost-person image!

don't broadcast to the entire school who you have a crush on; he may or may not hate you forever.

^^^^ or she hehe

I tried to please everyone I could. Teachers, friends, people who I wanted to be my friends lol. It's just not worth it. You probably won't hear from those people after High School anyway. It was a complete waste of time and energy.

Don't be a jerk. Do your homework everyday. Show up for class.

I screwed myself because I originally though I just wanted to be top 5 (so I could get my name in the paper, so I just shot for 92s (lowest A) freshman year. Now, I'm 3rd and wishing I was val or sal because freshman year killed me.

I also hurt myself by not skipping a year of a language like I could have. (I could have been in French II but I took German instead, a mistake on my part). The best programs in your school are the ones that go to the highest levels, know that from the get-go.

I didn't join a sport because I was too out of shape to do anything. This is not the end of the world. Focus on becoming a leader, in and outside of the classroom.

Top 5 is pretty good in my book. I am 15 at the moment after a stellar junior year. If rankings at my school were just junior year I would be top 5 easily. Freshman/Sophomore year is riddling with 88-92 grades. I just set the bar for myself a bit low. Wasn't motivated until the college process began during my soph/jr summer. My advice is make your goals now, set them high so you have to push for them, and set out for them hard. Also, think outside the box on these goals. CC should be helpful for research. Just copy some other overachiever =D

I cut every wednesday because I was lazy. And I pretty much got away with it last year.

Of course every wendesday doesn't mean EVERY wednesday, but at least half.

don't skip single periods; it's a complete waste of itme because there's really no time to do much and teachers and administrators are always walking around so you could get caught.
if you truly want to skip, just skip the whole day. this also means you have to choose wisely. haha

don't skip b/c school sux

don't aim to get the lowest possible highest grade (backfired many times 9th and 10th grade)

don't go to parties on sundays--you'll end up staying longer than u intended

enjoy it before the testing comes...
