What won't you see on a Columbia tour?

ksarmand, It’s true you can load up on snacks for a couple bucks, but you can’t really have a full meal. It’s pretty much the same at any college you go to. C02, you’re absolutely right about Chinatown (and particularly dim sum): authentic yet very cheap food. But since it costs $4.50 in travel expenses, not to mention time, it’s not a terribly viable option. It’s great if you have a night to kill, but not for a quick meal.

I find that a fast meal in New York usually runs about $10. $6-7 for a sandwich and a drink.

Koronets has $3.50 a slice pizza. Sounds like a lot, but their slices are huge… So its probably the cheapest food in Morningside Heights if we’re going bang-for-your buck. Hamdel is a staple of our diets. That is $6.50-7 a sandwich plus drink. so about average.

for cheap / good food :

1) columbia lunch box at vine (broadway betw 115,116): miso soup + salad+ california rolls + rice + significant entre for 8.25 (nothing great but it’s a lot of food)

2) lunch menu at any chinese restaurant, usually soup + entre + rice at $5-7

3) lamb / chicken over rice carts now there are 5-6 all across the street from campus, 4-6 bucks for a full meal. (this is pretty greasy stuff, but really good)

4) breakfast sandwiches at Pinnacle (115, bway): 2.25 for egg and cheese +1 for quite a lot of added meat (they’ll toast it, you choose your cheese and I’m pretty sure they use 2-3 eggs)

5) Sandwich / burger at m2m (114 bway) and hamdel (116 amsterdam) $4-$7

6) For dinner a chipotle (110, bway) burrito is a decent deal at $8

7) mcdonalds is 103rd and 125th and subway is closer

8) Ollie’s (116 bway) mandarin noodle soup for dinner (this is one of the few things they do well) ~$7

9) Taqueria (108, amsterdam) quesadilla for $4.25 - one will fill you up

10) spicy special - a spicy turkey sandwich sandwich from “crack del” (109, amsterdam, don’t remember real name) - $4 - best $4 you’ll ever spend.

11) Most things from Saji’s - (Japanese, 109 &bway)

considering dining hall meals go @ $10-14 / meal, these are great deals unless you are an athlete and eat huge amounts

oh true, gotta hit up the halal carts. From what I hear our halal carts aren’t the best in the city, but they are still good.

Or head towards midtown (72nd, actually) for Gray’s Papaya hot dogs and fruit-flavored drinks.

Lol soo true. The kids protest just about everything and there are so many protest parties that some are completely against one another
