What would be a good major for me?

Ok, I’ve been thinking about my major for a while now (Incoming Senior in H.S), and I’ve always wanted to major in the science related field since I was a kid. Now, I’m rethinking about that idea and wanting to convert entirely to another major that I’m more passionate in. Since 5th grade I’ve always been interested in reading Percy Jackson (Olympian mythology + fantasy) and since then I have never let go of Rick Riordan’s (author) novel series. What would be a good major for me if I’m interested in:

Greek/Roman mythology and history
United States History
Scientific research about historical monuments

You may be interested in history, classics, archeology, art history, and anthropology. There’s a lot of space within those majors to find and focus on your “thing”, and do the research that you mentioned, too. Very cool interests, btw!

You may want to look for schools that give grants to non-science majors to do work in their field. I think I remember reading that Vassar has a program like that- I’m not sure how common they are.

I will say, though, that make sure to keep an open mind and do more investigation. Most of these fields are actually quite different from what they may seem on the outside.

For example, classics as a field of study is, indeed, about classical antiquity (Greco-Roman world, specifically), and there’s definitely some scientific research about historical monuments in there. But classical antiquity has a LOT more in it besides Greek and Roman mythology - there’s also philosophy, languages, ancient history and art history. The Greeks’ and Romans’ religions obviously influenced their world a whole lot, but it’s kind of like studying U.S. history and expecting it to be mostly about Christianity.

But take some classes and feel things out!
