So I was thinking of a good/realistic score for application for university of Colorado Boulder that would give me a really good chance of getting in. Since I have a 3.5 (weighted) GPA, when my scores come back next week, I’m definitely retaking if I score in the 1000’s, 1100’s is ok, but anywhere in the 1200’s is where I think I should be. So if you are me, what would you aim for to get like an 80% or higher chance of getting admitted?
Colorado native here, as long as your GPA is around the 3.5 mark and you have decent EC’s, you’re pretty much set for Boulder. They’re not too nitpicky.
For your SAT score, you should definitely be aiming for at least a 1200 just to be safe. Anything lower is a bit off-putting for a high acceptance chance. It’s a great school, though, and as long as finances aren’t too much of a problem, you should be okay. You already have a pretty good chance with your GPA, which is what state colleges like to stress on a lot.
Good luck!
Well I’m not really a Colorado resident, I’m from Pennsylvania. Do they make it harder for students to get accepted if their not state residents? And what do you mean by “they’re not too nitpicky”? I’m a junior in high school and I have straight A’s for all 3 quarters. So does UCB like those students who have straight A’s in their Junior year even though they didn’t do so well in their Freshman year? I hope you understand what I’m saying, I know that colleges look at Junior year the most.
The University is anticipating its largest and most competitive freshman class ever, according to my sources. As such, a 3.5 should give you a reasonable chance but it does not guarantee anything. A 1200 SAT is somewhere near the 72nd percentile, lower than average here. The University has an average ACT of 27, which will likely move up to a 28 - 29 next year. For you to better your application, you will need to boost your SAT from the 72nd to the 85th percentile. Boulder is growing in prestige. Everyone wants to come here. We have a great environment, academics, and a football team that is about to burst onto the national stage again. I wish you all the best on your application.
You also need to look at which school your applying to (e.g. the college of Engineering vs. Arts and Sciences). They have different scores/GPA’s to be competitive.
Well I want to get a masters in Geology so I can be a geologist. I want to be a geologist because I love natural landmarks, like Yosemite National Park, Denali, the Rocky Mountains, The Grand Canyon, and mountains in general.
You can find the stats needed for scholarships here:

I would aim for those.
CU has one of the best geology programs in the world.
Well in that case, I’ll aim for anything in the 1300’s
I would also like to thank all of you for your advice!
