Hello all, two years ago iwas expelled from university for plagiarism as a second attempt. Anyway, I have known my mistake and now I have graduated from a different school with dean’s list for 3 consecutive semesters(3.6/4). I’m really depressed and feeling afraid to apply for graduate school and get rejected . The application of the graduate school asks a question if I ever was expelled before or no ; and honestly I don’t want to lie . As a matter fact, I can’t lie because it will be showing on one of my transcripts. Please tell me what would you do if you were me , and what suggestions do you have for me ? Also, what are the chances of me getting in the graduate school? Btw, School I’m planning to attend has 89% acceptance rate .
it is worth a shot if your GPA/GMAT matches or exceeds the school’s average for acceptance to the MBA program. You made some bad mistakes but then went on to finish college the right way at another school. Perhaps send along a brief letter addendum to your application stating what you learned from the expulsion, how you worked hard and did things right when you were given a second chance at the college you graduated from, and that you fully expect to carry on that ethic in grad school and throughout your career.
Thanks for the reply!!! Finally someone replied to my post
The school I want to apply for requires only gpa 2.75 and don’t require any gmat or work experience . I have four years of work experience and many recommendation letters from professors. Also , Should I stat in the application what happened in details or just say it’s academic? I don’t think the school I got expelled can release the reason of my expulsion as this violates the law of education and privacy in California
I don’t understand why you would want to go to a business school that has such low requirements for admission. What do you expect to get out of such a school? Are you trying for jobs that have an MBA as a requirement but won’t care where it is from? What is your goal? Do your targeted companies offer jobs to graduates of this school?
You want to think this through before rushing to pay for a degree that won’t offer much opportunities. A lot of MBA degrees are quite useless.
I was expelled before. I don’t think any selective school would accept me and I have to think about easier alternative schools. That was my question " do you think I have a chance …" the reason for my MBA degree is because I used to work for a company overseas and now the company I used to work for offered me 40% more of my old salary and pay for my tuition If I signed the agreement. Mostly companies overseas don’t care for the name of the university as long as the degree is from the US
Tell the truth.
@Roro2020 Yes own up to it – either in the optional essay or in the paragraph option that appears when they ask about academic suspensions. I would check this guide out https://shop.mbamission.com/products/mbamission-optional-essays-guide
It should give you some tips on how to frame your essay – basically, own up to it and don’t make excuses. Explain the lessons learned, etc.
They don’t have any options like that. They only say " if your answer to expulsion was yes yes please attach brief explanation of an approx date and what happened and what how you learned from your past mistake"
Thanks for replying. That’s what I mean . I’ll tell the truth but do I have to mention every detail or just I mentioning that I cheated on this date and I have learned my lesson and turn my life around and graduated?
I would add enough details so that they’re not making assumptions about the severity, but, like the rest of the application, be brief and to the point. Don’t add anything extraneous.
Thanks I’ll . Do u think I should also attach my professional recommendation and also academic recommendation (professor) letters plus my other credentials to show that I have worked hard on myself?
Is getting expelled from college means failing all courses and getting F grade for all courses plus the expulsion notification on transcripts?
