What your grade in Chem 102a depends on?

on the 3 hour lecture or in the 1 hour discussion or the test. Are tests and exams standardized?

The tests are all departmental. You’re taking the same test as all the other Chemistry 102A classes. They’re really freaking hard and it can only get harder if you have a professor who goes off topic all the time. It’s not uncommon to find literally half the class skipping on any particular day. Most students end up realizing that their professors will post detailed notes online and that the tests are all based out of the book, so there’s no point in going to an 8am lecture when your time would be better spent sleeping in.

However, does the grade depend on attendance to classes? So if I skip the class, my grade ll be lowered.

You’ll find out within the first few days. Teachers will explain their attendance policy. With Chem102, pretty sure you aren’t going to be graded on your attendance, but you can miss in-class “clicker” questions which could otherwise earn you extra credit. Plus the more you skip, the less leniency you’ll get from the teacher, if you ever need it.
