I tried making quiche for the first time this afternoon. I’ll let you know how it was after breakfast tomorrow.
Did you make your own crust? Either way, bravo!
No. I took went the easy route and bought a frozen crust.
Nice. I’ve used the pillsbury fridge pie crusts that are rolled up in a box.
Those rolled pie crusts are my favorite too. I’ve found that the generic store brands are actually better.
Never heard of Pocket!
I have it as an add-on to my web browser–which is Firefox. And then added it to my phone. Basically it’s an aggregator, just a place to organize links. Very seamless and user-friendly.
Need a quick dinner idea for tonight. I have a package of cheese or cheese/onion pierogis at home - give me some ideas for turning them into a main dish.
I often will do some italian sausage or kielbasa sautéed with them but we had italian sausage earlier in the week.
Ideas?
I would do a sheet pan with them + cabbage, or if you have…brussel sprouts + kimchi, ala this recipe (which I love): Sheet-Pan Pierogies With Brussels Sprouts and Kimchi Recipe - NYT Cooking
Alternately, I might use them to do a take on a dish that is common in my husband’s sephardic family, calsones: Basics: Easy, Cheesy, Buttery Syrian Calsones - Between Carpools
I should mention while I am very adventurous, H is NOT. He would leave the house if dinner for him was cabbage and kimchi!!! LOL.
The calsones are interesting! That’s a lot of carbs! Perfect for the night before a race!
Maybe won’t work for your non-adventurous husband but an Indian friend once made us packaged pierogies sautéed up to be a spicy, zesty Indian-type dish. You’d cook the pierogies as instructed then pan-fry with onion, garlic, ginger, spicy peppers, and Indian spices plus some form of tomato (like a small amount of tomato paste).
We had a much easier favorite - cook pierogies in oven or air fryer then toss with Franks red hot and butter as if they were Buffalo wings (you can adjust sauce with salt, pepper, vinegar as needed).
This is ingenious - considering my love of both pierogies and buffalo-style anything, I can’t believe it never occurred to me to do this. I know what’s going on next week’s menu!
Years ago I accidentally discovered that the kids loved a simple entree of grated cheese melted over cooked noodles (usually leftovers). Ditto for quesadilla, but you need to have tortilla. Yea, they also loved Kraft Mac and Cheese, but this was easier.
My kids would always eat pasta with olive oil, garlic, and grated Parmesan cheese (Aglio e Olio). That’s one of my go-to dishes when the fridge is empty!!
I love anchovies added to that combination! Sometimes do pasta with olive oil, garlic, parmesan and also throw in some mushrooms and black olives, along with the anchovies.
Or canned sardines plus capers, bread crumbs, and finely chopped lemon zest, finish with fresh squeezed lemon juice. Fresh parsley too if it’s on hand.
Always capers because I use anchovies with capers. Have also done it with the lemon and bread crumbs. Good idea. I leave out the mushrooms and black olives then.
This is NOT healthy, but we’re talking pierogis
Edit to add: you can also do it with cream of whatever soup, ham and broccoli
The verdict is in: the quiche was a hit. Even my 13 year old son gave it a favorable review.
Have you tried this before? I pinned it.
Decided to just do big salads tonight - actually one of my fav meals
