Whatcha Cooking? - Comfort Food Edition

I made pasta (thin spaghetti) too last night but with anchovies. I also throw in some garlic, Italian seasoning, black olives and mushrooms into the olive oil. Fresh parmesan on top. It hit the spot!

The salad is a half grilled romaine heart topped with grilled corn off the cob, sliced grape tomatoes, and Feta dressed with one part olive oil, one part red wine vinegar, and a tablespoon or so of Dijon mustard whisked with salt and ground pepper to taste.

Sometimes, we just have a split heart as our entree:

Had leftover dough from my weekend manty effort and decided to make smaller dumplings that don’t need to be steam-cooked.

Thanks! It is all about taking photos from the right angle. But they were tasty!

I get together every December with three friends and we decorate boxwood trees. We take turns hosting and for my turn the other night I made a Sicilian Chicken Soup. It was really quite good. I used homemade chicken broth and tomatoes that I had canned and chopped them up instead canned tomatoes. I also cooked the pasta (ditali) separately and added it at the end.

I saved that recipe. Did you use the bell pepper? That’s the one ingredient that seems a little out of place!

I did and had the same thought. It was fine—the recipe calls for a large yellow pepper and I bought a smallish one for this soup.

Does anyone have a good recipe for lamb burgers/sliders???

I think I want to do this for our family appetizer spread. I can do them on the grill but if I could do them inside that would be a bonus.

I do plan to do them as a slider.

We got 12 Harry and David’s pears as a gift. Anyone have a good recipe for a pear something or other?

We got 9 Harry and David pears last week as part of a gift basket. We used 2 cut up to dip in cheese fondue(along with granny smith apple and baguette). The rest we used at breakfast or lunch just as is, or with slices of cheese . I’m sure there are more exciting things to do with them, so look forward to what suggestions you get (since we have gotten pears from the same family members for decades and know more pears are in our future!).

Haven’t made poached pears myself but it’s what came to mind

I had a really good sandwich in Tuscany, A toasted crosini with pecorino cheese, bacon, pear slices and caramelized onion. I love a sweet/savory combination.
Mixed greens with pear, gorgonzola cheese, pecans, red onion with a balsamic honey vinaigrette. Or a raspberry vinaigrette.

Also received some pears this week. Thanks for the suggestions, and I’m also making “pearsauce” to go with the nontraditional latkes – DH is a traditionalist and I enjoy yanking his chain by offering something other than potato latkes and something other than applesauce/sour cream (all of which I like, but c’mon, eight nights???).

This easy and the house smells wonderful.

Yes, that is what I did with 2 of mine. Had a pear with sharp cheddar cheese for lunch a couple of days.

We just did an early Christmas with my parents. Mom and Dad have been missing dear family friends who are originally from Morocco; my parents moved down here from PA last year, so they’ve only been able to go up once to see them. They’re like my parent’s other kids/grandkids. My mom doesn’t cook from scratch anymore, so she bought me this beautiful tagine to cook some of our friends’ favorite dishes. I’m excited to get recipes to add to our family cookbook. Lots of comfort food coming our way. :grinning:

My husband makes lamb burgers with microplaned garlic, oregano, finally chopper shallot, and a little smoked paprika. Served with sliced, salted tomato, mayo mixed with a heavy dose or smoked paprika, on a brioche bun. Very good grilled.
