Hello,
So I just graduated from high school but I also graduated with my AA degree through the Running Start Program. My High School GPA was a 3.35 and my College GPA is currently a 3.38 GPA. I am going to Eastern Washington University in the fall for only a year but I was wondering what is a good GPA to transfer somewhere like NYU or Columbia? I have amazing extra-curriculars and leadership roles. I am also the first person to go to college in my family. I would really love to attend a University that is of reach in my eyes because I know it’s not very easy. Does anyone have any helpful tips for me and is it possible for me to ever transfer to a well known University or Ivy League School?
If you read other threads in this forum, you will see that these highly selective universities have a very low transfer admission rate. Even lower than their Freshman admission rates. To further complicate matters, if you already have an AA degree, then by the time you finish your first year of college at Eastern Washington, you might have too many credits to be eligible for a transfer to the schools you list. You need to look at their web sites and see what their transfer requirements are and what kind of statistics you need to be a good candidate. A 3.38 GPA is likely not going to be sufficient.
I agree, Columbia/Nyu will probably look t 3.5+. However you can certainly try to apply to a little easier schools like SUNY or even Fordham assuming you pick it up. Given that your going into freshman year I am assuming they wont kill you for the 3.38 if you do very well but it certainly doesnt look great
