The title says it all. I'm probably going to have a 3.8UW by the end of this semester and was wondering if that was fine for the ivies. I've been very paranoid lately!

I HAVE A FRiEND WHO GOT INTO MIT AND CALTECH WITH A 3.8 BUT DIDN’T GET IN ANYWHERE ELSE BUT THAT WAS FINE BECAUSE ALL SHE EVER WANTED TO GO TO WAS MIT

BUT SHE WAS ALSO PRETTY GOOD AT COMPETITIONS SO YOU KNOW

^ lol. don’t sweat it. i know a few kids with a gpa of 3.5 or less that got into ivies (but great SAT scores). see the fact is, your gpa isn’t everything- but it does matter. so just don’t slack off and do well on your sats/acts, ECs, and you’ll get into an ivy.

Thanks desi, I’m definitely hoping to receive a 2250+ on my SATs, and I’m already participating in some worthwhile ECs.

^^ vv, why have you been spamming lately?

i was in a bad place last night so i kind of just acted without thinking

well, here’s the thing: you’re less likely to get in with a gpa below 3.8 because the ivies like to report higher gpa averages…that being said, however, admissions to most places are based on a ‘holistic’ approach.

i’m applying to a couple ivies w/a 3.6 :(, so I wouldn’t be TOO dejected if i got rejected.

A 3.8 is pretty average for accepted students to top schools, but keep in mind that a lot of those students are from top prep schools. It will not bar you from admissions by any means though. If you’re from a pretty decent schools, you shouldn’t worry about it. That certainly won’t be the sole thing keeping you from these schools if you don’t get in, and if you don’t get in, you’ll be in good company with the other well-qualified applicants they don’t have room to admit.

Well although this isn’t an “Ivy”, I know a girl who got in to CalTech with a 3.6. But she had really good EC’s. So you could compensate that way.
