Some of the schools are requesting a graded paper. My d only has papers written for a creative writing class and a writing assignment for history, with the prompt, if you could meet one person in history who would you choose (this is only one page).

Would one of the above be appropriate? If I asked her English teacher to assign something specifically for her applications, what would be an appropriate assignment. Thanks.

if anyone can answer my addon question (sorry to steer the topic, though i'm sure many people will reply to the OP's questions :D)... for schools that specifically state on their website to send in an "essay" though doesn't really expand on it, would it be safe to send in a creative writing piece?

I did contact one school about the creative writing paper and the response was send it, if you do not have anything else. They seemed to prefer a different type of writing sample. What types of graded papers did other people send?

our essays are inclass tests or analysi(sp? plural of analysis..) of things that though we have taken at least 10 of, cannot submit because once we see our score and agree it's the grade we deserve as well as look at our mistakes, we can't have it back. and given that we only really had an hour and a half to finish them, i doubt they're that good

I had the same issue. I English teacher takes 'extra credit' though, so whatever you give her she'll just grade. I specifically wrote an essay on leading one's own life and not having any regrets & sent that in. :)

Schools are usually looking for a more analytic piece of writing than creative and it can be from history or English. Basically they are looking to see the kind of writing the student has been asked to do, the feedback the student received, and to see the student's own work. Don't worry as much about the grade the paper received than the depth of the paper itself. That said, schools understand that some schools do not assign this type of work - best is to contact the school in which you are interested and make sure a creative piece is ok if that is all you have.
