I'd love to attend the Libral Arts program at the U of M.
I'll be a senior in the fall, possibly taking PSEO classes at MCTC for Fall and Spring, currently taking Adev 1100 and English 0900 at MCTC for this summer to polish my writing skill, as not to get rusty for the fall.

GPA: 3.35
Which is 80th Percentile at my school.

ACT: 20

1 year - Upward Bound (TRIO program)
Summer Season 2008 - PAL track & Field Program

AP US History
AP Composition
AP Biology

Next Year: either CIS Literature or English 1100 (PSEO course at MCTC)

Also, I'm possibly going to be apart of the teen program WACTAC for the Walker Arts Center

And I'm very much into art, I have a home studio and I record written and produced songs by myself. I recently just got done doing a Mixtape and I do a consistent amount of shows at local venues- I'm also a Poet- And I've written many short stories just out of the sheer joy of writing.

And none of my parents have went to a college in the US.

my mothers a Cold War refugee with education no higher then High school if that and my father did a bit of after highschool studying to be a vet as I was told by him, in Egypt. But he doesn’t use it.

I will but also when I’m on this site anything under 27 on the ACT seems dramatic, but I’ve yet to meet anyone who got above 25 and they all got accepted to the program.

one of my friend had a 3.0 GPA and a 19 on his ACT, and he got accepted. Is it really THAT hard?

maybe it’s because my atmosphere, because my schools average on it is 17.

17 for an average? ouch. actually. i got a 27 and was accepted. yes, i had good grades, took college classes and extra currics in high school–not as many as you but suffice. like the other person said. emphasize track and music. maybe do that as your essay.

I saw this and felt so compelled to respond that I created an account.

To anyone else reading this post.

Get your first two years done at MCTC or some other community college. I have attended both schools. You will save (with this year’s tuition prices) $15000 in tuition alone. The Minnesota community colleges offer an excellent education for 1/3 the price. Plus the class sizes are smaller which leads to less rigid policies which contribute to stress and not learning (zero because you turned your homework into the wrong box for example).

While it’s super hard to get into the U as a freshman it’s super easy as a transfer. A degree from the U is a degree from the U. No matter what route you took.

The only part I regret about the CC->transfer route is not having the first year social life. But I don’t regret not having the extra $25000 in debt. Especially if you are getting a liberal arts degree right now you have to think about how hard it will be to pay off a pile of debt after graduation.

80th percentile is okay. You need to retake the ACT and aim for above a 25. Take the SAT and aim for above an 1800. Do those and I think it’ll be a match for you. I mean your EC’s are solid, your grades are decent, and you have a few AP’s (please post the scores for those exams!). All things considered - you might have a shot if you take those standardize exams again (:
