She is a swimmer and in her junior year. her best times are
100bk 56:10
200BK 2:03
100 Fly 58:10

her academic
SATI 2070 ( R+M 1400)
SATII 800 (math)
GPA 3.93 (unweighted), 4.3 (weighted) the most rigorous course 5 APs so far, will take 5 or 6 more next year.
school current rank: 9/ 693

thank you..

she will take SATI one more time, but do not have much time to study so do not know how much she may improve.

I don’t see the point in waiting. If her scores go up, the coach will probably be more interested. I’ve never heard of a coach (not a school, but a coach) stating that your scores aren’t good enough and don’t bother to send any updates as he will not reconsider.

I think it is always a good idea to get an early introduction to a coach, to let him know you are interested, you are improving, etc.

First, I’ll say that your usage of the term “upper ivies” is a bit off-putting.

Your daughter’s back times are quite good for the Ivy League. Her fly time - meh. Quite honestly, her test scores will barely get her above 200 on the Academic Index, so hopefully she can improve her SAT1 scores. She should certainly reach out to the coaches, and there is a wealth of information on this board that can easily be found using the search function.

Have you been out on the prospective colleges’ swimming and diving websites to see how your Ds times stack up with the team’s times? Some of the sites are kind of cool because they tell you time standards for deck walk-ins to see if you even have a shot of getting on to the teams. Collegeswimming.com is a wealth of information and the recently conpleted Ivy League championship results are on that site. Back times seem in the mix but the butterfly time is borderline for some of the schools. There are others who are way more familiar with the academic standards than I am and I’m sure they will respond. Best of luck to your D!

thank you all for your reply!
sorry if I have used wrong wording and offended some one here, I meant to refer HYP.
I just calculated her AI, 216.
with 3 hr /day spending in the water, we have to decide if she has to miss some practice or meets in order to practice SATI

Her times currently are somewhat slow for H+ P based on those teams top 3 times for this year and the 2014 recruits times. Yale may be a possibility. If she continues to drop time she could certainly change her recruiting outlook. I would go to college swimming.com and compare her times to the current Ivy league times and the class of 2014 recruits.

Contact the coaches directly. If she is a junior, I wouldn’t wait, contact them (email, wait a bit, then phone calls) ASAP. Yeah, her times might improve, but I don’t feel that Ivies recruit seniors that heavily.

The academic index is a tool that the Ivy League uses to rank prospective student athletes. It is a combination of SAT1/SAT2/GPA or class rank. The are several posts here or via google that you can find a calculator. The max score is 240, with the minimum to be considered being 176, I believe. But each Ivy has different criteria.

thank you all again!
it’s just so bad to balance school work and swimming at junior year. i am devastated to see that she gets only 4-5 hours sleep on most school days!
I just hope it worth…
