What's so great about the University of Michigan?

<p>Great academics: top 5 business school, top 5 engineering school, one of the top public policy schools, ranked in top 20 for a vast majority of programs in lsa. If you are undecided or want to change majors, Michigan’s strong programs allows you to maintain that top level of education.</p>

<p>Reputation: pretty self explanitory. In top 20 in best colleges in world rankings.</p>

<p>Opportunities: 2nd in research funding only behind hopkins. UROP. Extensive student abroad program. Many employers in midwest recruit for internships here.</p>

<p>Sports: Amazing experience from football pregames to being in maize rage. Does anything else need to be included here?</p>

<p>Campus- Beautiful mix of old and new. Much more condensed and easier to access than you think. I am in lsa and all classes i will have are in one area.</p>

<p>Two important factors that may deter you that is important-</p>

<li>Living on north campus- it sucks however its not a killer by any means. Very manageable probably not as big of a deal as others make it but it sucks.</li>
</ol>

<p>Greek life- Something i didnt know before coming here:greek life dominates party scene. If you are the one who wants to party it is pretty much greek life or nothing (some clubs like ultimate Frisbee, snowboarding have their own).</p>

<p>Other than that- it’s an amazing university.

Many students are drawn to NYU because of the city. NYU hails most of it’s “brand identity” due to the “New York” tag. If NYU was called Something Else University in a different city but contains all the same programs and resources, I’m sure that it would have less recognition. If you mean that NYU and UMich have an equivalent brand prestige, then UMich would be more impressive since it does not need the New York advantage. Ann Arbor is great, but nothing comparable to NYC.</p>

<p>Nevertheless, I do respect NYU since they still do offer great academics.</p>
