There are some schools that offer an MA (not MBA) which is typically designed for a non- business major undergrad who wants to work in business. It’s 1 yr and handled immediately after undergrad. For example, Wake Forest has such a program. One of the benefits is it requires an internship and places pretty well with many excellent companies. There are other schools that offer similar programs. Some are moving away from MBAs as it’s hard to compete with top 20 schools in a meaningful, differentiated way. This way they can differentiate and help LAC kids start a solid career.
Again, what type of business do you want to run or participate in?
I asked because it’s a very different thing to have a great idea or some interest you want to pursue than to just have a general thought that “business” might be interesting. If you let us know why you’re considering an MBA or what type of business you want to operate, that would help us to guide you.
You guys are right, and as I think about it more it makes no sense to go back for a BBA. I’m just trying to figure it all out, it’s tough because all through college I had an idea of what I wanted to do, just had a change of heart and now I can empathize with those who get into college having no idea what they want to do, it’s tough.
I appreciate your feedback and there are some questions I can’t answer b/c I just don’t know.
I think going back to school for a BBA would be a bad idea. I would work towards getting admitted to an MBA program or perhaps something like a Master in Management at a good business school (like UMich Ross).
The again, I am just a undergrad student, so internships and part-time jobs make up my professional experience. Take my advice for what’s it worth.
Look into agribusiness. Companies like Coke, Cargill, large corporations like that. Think of the skills you’ve acquired through your degree: testing, creating protocols, etc.
If you took some math, list it.
If you can take one course in the Spring and haven’t taken it yet, take bioinformatics or biostatistics. Bioethics may be of interest, too, although not as practical as these two.
What sort of professional experience do you have? Any internship? Summer jobs?
Are you currently a senior or did you graduate in May?
(“Thanks, man”, would be ok for a college kid although even from HS students it’s oblivious and irritating; as an adult looking for a job and asking professionals, you need to start thinking like a manager. Practice saying Thank you Sir Thank you Ma’am if you want to be formal, or Thank you @… for the forum.)
Top MBA programs actually see themselves as formalizing and completing someone’s professional training who does NOT have a business degree. They would much rather have someone with scientific (or linguistic or economics…) training than someone with a BBA, the exception being programs where all students basically double major in the Liberal Arts and Business such as Notre Dame, Wharton, etc.
@MYOS1634
I took calculus 1 and 2 and got A’s in both, but it was my senior year in high school even tho it was through a 4 year uni and I got the credits for it, it’s been such a long time and while I was GREAT at math, it’s been soo long.
No internships work either which is what really hurts me. I do have volunteer and club leadership experiences I can try to spin off to show some skills I have developed.
Graduated in May, haven’t worked since b/c took 2 months to chill, did a 1 month course in a side thing I wanted to do, and since August I hurt my leg and have been dealing with that, it got better and I got a side job at Dick’s Sporting Goods, but I hurt my leg again and had to quit after 3 weeks and I’m still dealing with that right now. That’s why I haven’t been working.
@julliet @MYOS1634 @ everyone!!!
So some of you have mentioned med/pharma sales, my question is what is my best route to get into that if you guys know about it all? I ask this because many medical and pharmaceutical sales jobs require prior business to business sales experience which I do not have it all…
