Now I plan on transferring from my current school. I have extracurriculars and all that stuff, but what do u guys think I should do to impress colleges? I am looking for ideas, maybe on the lines of business or politics. Something that will jump off the page. Also it can't involve me risking my life, I am looking for ideas that I am interested in. I have some money, but looking for not too costly ideas.

Girls Gone Wild.

yes cuz im sure colleges will like that idea

umm... how about tattooing your first choice school's name on your neck and then sending in a picture? That's pretty crazy. Then again, that one girl on Rock of Love tattooed bret michaels' name on her neck and she didn't get picked. But, I've heard Harvard is pretty into that stuff.

Climb some really difficult mountain, and make sure to wear the clothing of your school of choice while you're doing it.

im climbing mt rainer next summer i should try that

ok the mountain climbing is going on my list, i will be climbing mount fuji anyways which is convenient, really good idea thnx. Anymore ideas?

mountain climbing is awesome and real easy you seriously should try it

i climbed my first mountain eldorado peak at age 13

the only things is that I will prob have to take a picture of me wearing the clothes on top of the mountain just give them proof. My other idea is that I live with homeless people in a box, is that crazy and something that colleges would like or is it too normal?

it shows interest

Here's a crazy way to get the attention of admissions people: figure out who you are and what matters most to you.

Seriously, in terms of extracurriculars, it's not so much WHAT you do, as it is what the things you do say about YOU and your personal qualities.

So, instead of trying to come up with a bunch of crazy ideas that may not reflect who you are, take a step back and think for a bit about the answers to these questions:

What are my personal strengths and weaknesses?

Which of my past activities and accomplishments have really challenged me, excited me, taught me something important, gave me the most satisfaction?

What would l like to learn more about?

What types of activities would give me real personal satisfaction and a sense of real accomplishment?

Which activities and accomplishments would be the best reflection of my personal interests, my personal strengths, and my personal goals?

Then, look around for opportunities to contribute, to learn, and to become a better person. The EC's you find that way will do MUCH more for you in terms of impressing an admissions committee than trying to cram in activities or accomplishments that are no reflection of who you are, and what matters to you. Those sorts of activities will also be the ones you won't have to worry about taking pictures of to prove that you did them --- they will just be part of who you are.

Admissions committees don't admit EXTRACURRICULARS or CRAZY STUNTS. They admit real people. The most impressive applicant is one who knows who they are, and have lived their lives accordingly.

Good luck.

i completely agree, I am just looking for a FEW activities that will impress them and that is why I mentioned that I prefer something that interests me. I know grades are the biggest factor

Jump off the Golden Gate Bridge wearing your #1's college's gear. You'll be in for sure. I can't promise you'll live to be admitted...

Join a super dangerous cult (Solar Temple, People's Temple). Colleges love diversity in their community, so they might recruit you.

Burn your whole wardrobe and replace it with college gear.

Scientology is a pretty dangerous cult, too. It's a little expensive, though.

ok can anyone suggest anything realistic? Umm I could burn my wardrobe, but wont they think i am a psycho

This may sound crazy...but what Carolyn has to say might just be absolutely correct. College is not about doing crazy stunts to show you are amazing, it is about being sure of who you are and what your passion is. If your passion is to live in a box with homeless people, then by all means go for it. I think having a crazy/wild personality is one thing, but the main aspect of an applicant sought after is the passion.

Also, if you try to do everything just to get into one school, and god forbid don't get accepted because admissions are a "crapshoot" as several have so stated, then you will seriously regret not finding your passion.

If you're going to be so pessimistic about it here, then I hope you are miserable...

extract a litre of blood each week or so from your body and store it. after you have 25 litres:

get a razor and cut your #1 school's name on your forhead

paint your face white

put on a black trench coat
5.dump the blood on yourself
6.take a pic for proof

TUOwls2011: was that to me? where was I pessimistic?
Jackfitz: I was just mentioning that on this thread because I have a friend who tried to do outrageous activities that she thought would get her into Yale but she got rejected and is pretty bitter over it. I mean high school is a place to find what you're passionate about, not a place to do whatever to get into a top college.
I thought you meant how to improve your chances by doing something outrageous and I simply wanted to let you know not to. If you want to do something outrageous for fun then by all means do.
