What's the Difference between Columbia College and School of General Studies?

I am applying for an undergraduate economics degree, but I am a bit confused on which academic program I would be put in?

I looked on their websites and both Columbia College and School of General Studies have economics programs

Straight from the horse’s mouth:

“The School of General Studies of Columbia University is the finest liberal arts college in the United States created specifically for returning and nontraditional students seeking a rigorous, traditional, Ivy League undergraduate degree…”

If you have had a one year or longer break in your education since graduating high-school (aka “non-traditional”), you would apply to GS instead of Columbia College. Conversely, if you are a soon-to-be-graduating high school senior, you would apply to Columbia College.

The reason you see duplicated major programs between the schools is that they are, in fact, the same majors. The faculty, majors, courses, etc., are shared between the 2 colleges.
