What's the difference?

Hi. I was planning to go to a UC( UC Irvine ) but also wanted to go to a CSU( CSU Long Beach ) as a back up
school. My main questions are...

What's the main difference between UCs and CSUs?

Are CSUs less selective than UCs?

Will I get a better education at a UC rather than a CSU?
And any other general pros and cons of say picking a UC over a CSU or a CSU over a UC thank you!

UCs are generally more selective than CSUs (it can depend on the major). CSUs also tend to be more commuter schools since UCs have better in-state aid to pay for room and board. You will not necessarily get a better education at a UC.

Also UC’s are more researched based while Cal States were designed to get students out into the workforce. You will get a great education at either one. Each area in the state has a designated “in service area” Cal State which will give students priority that live in the 'in service" area. There are some Cal States that are more selective than some of the UC’s such as Cal Poly SLO and San Diego State.
