What's the dumbest reason you applied/didn't apply to a school?

If I hadn’t been accepted ED elsewhere, I was going to apply to Case Western because there was no application fee and “running around on rooftops” was on the list of things students are most likely to get caught doing on another college review site.

In the very beginning when I was just researching schools I immediately "x"ed them if the website 1) was ugly or 2) actually didn’t function.

Weather on the day of a visit can definately have an effect.

I guess a stupid reason that a lot of people don’t apply somewhere is because we take the advice or opinion of a single person who immediately writes off the school, and then don’t look into it at all for ourselves…

Applied to:
Fordham because they waived the app fee. McGill beacuse a teacher of mine got her PhD from there and I may study that subject. Cooper Union because its free. St Johns University for 6 year PharmD because my parents forced me to apply there and it was the only reputable program.

Did not:
MIT because I had no humanities teachers to get a letter from. BC because I thought the school was too white lol (I’m white and grew up/live in the most diverse city or borough or whatever). Caltech, too far =[. Cornell, to rural. Tufts, ugly.

I’m only a junior but…

I’m not applying to Rutgers because I don’t like the name. Also, my friend called it Slutgers and I can’t get it out of my head.

I’m not applying to Clemson because South Carolina.

Not applying to Virginia Tech because my cousin goes there and I know I’m smarter than her.

MIT because I saw 21 and felt inadequate.

Not applying to URI because I can walk to campus and like half my high school goes there, no thanks.

UCB, even though it’s perfect, because it’s in California.

Bama because of the Greek Life (it’s waaaay too huge)

Elon because my friend went for a week and hated it and came back to URI, but she couldn’t get the full scholarship back because she had turned it down. Also because I heard some story about someone kicking a dog to death?

Harvard because I walked around campus (not with a tour guide, just killing time) and it was literally dead silent. There were students everywhere and not ONE of them was talking. I wanted to just shout something, like “THIS IS COLLEGE YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO HAVE FUN”

And I will apply to… (of course there are more reasons than just what is listed)

Duke because of school spirit

Pitt, because they’re the Pitt Panthers

UVa because it’s preppy

UVm because my favorite cousin got accepted to Honors there, and Burlington is awesome

UConn because of sports and closeness, should I decide I don’t want to go to a city or far away.

BU because it was the first school I visited and I love Boston.

I didn’t apply to Pace because there was a hornet nest on one of the trees right in the middle of the campus, and because the entire lake was coated in green stuff.

I visited Duke, fell in love with the campus, and… ultimately didn’t apply. Because I thought I wouldn’t get in.
Then I applied to Stanford. The irony is not lost on me :stuck_out_tongue:
I didn’t apply to Amherst because I got this vibe that it was this giant party school when I went there for some reason. And my tour guide told me he couldn’t tell me which other colleges he’d applied to… while the Williams tour guide readily gave out that info!

I changed my mind about Saint Rose because their colors were just black and yellow…bumble bee colors annoy me.

At first, I love Elmira because of the purple. Now, I think if I went there, I would become so sick of purple the thought of it might make me puke. They even have purple stop signs and purple rock salt…?

I won’t go anywhere North of where I live in upstate NY because I hate the cold, yet let’s face it…ALL of NY is cold. But I can’t go too far south yet, because I’m too pathetic to leave my boyfriend.

I rule out places if I don’t like the name. It is an automatic no no.

Would not even consider LeMoyne because too many people from my High School go there.

I didn’t apply to Rhodes because my mom liked it too much

I didn’t apply to UGA because I’m sick of my high school classmates. About half of my graduating class is going there. Really, it’s time for some new faces.

I liked Duke’s campus because it reminded me of Hogwarts…

Dartmouth reminded me of A Separate Peace. Also, I’ve never seen snow, and I want to be somewhere that’s absolutely freezing.

I didn’t apply to Berry College because when I visited the campus all I saw were a bunch of curly brown haired girls stomping around campus in hiking boots with their muffin tops hanging out.

I didn’t apply to Washington & Lee because the only things the students like to do there is drink expensive liquor and walk around in their wrinkled vineyard vines attire.

I also didn’t apply to Wofford for the same reason. I mean it’s like look people, stop trying to be the preppy Ke$ha. Now I love me some Ke$ha as much the next person, but really yall.

What’s the matter with California…? :(

I will not be applying to TCNJ because the tour guide bragged about how hard it was to walk backwards and talk at the same time, for the ENTIRE tour.
I will apply to UVA because Tucker Max said it is amazing.
I will not apply to Duke because “the only good thing about Duke is that its 15 minutes from Chapel Hill”
Also, thats why I’m applying to UNC-CH.
Applying to Pepperdine and CMC because they have beautiful campuses.
Applying to Penn State because of the party scene.
Applying to Vanderbilt and Wake Forest because of the Greek Life, even though I do not want to join a sorrority.
Applying to Dartmouth because of Animal House and Keggy the Keg.
Not applying to BC because my English teacher told us a story about how when she went there they told her to “look around at 3 other people” because “one of you will be raped by the time you finish college.” No thanks.
Emory because its exotic. Really, who goes to Emory?
Bowdoin because they have the best food and great dorms.
Not applying to CMU because they made the Princeton Review’s “Is It Food?” list.
Applying to UCSB because its on the beach and Psych is set in Santa Barbara.
Applying to McGill because Wilson went there and he is a great oncologisst.

My daughter told me a few of her reasons for saying yes or no… and I had to agree with her on some.
-All Community Colleges she didn’t apply to because of the fact that they are community colleges.
-U. of Michigan she did not apply to because her cousins went to Michigan State (Even though she is leaving Michigan for College…)
-U. of Miami and Tampa because her sister asked her too apply somewhere warm instead of just the east coast.
-She didn’t apply to NYU because at last minute she said “Mom I don’t think I’m really happy with my portfolio” and was scared of rejection (completely disagreed), she also confessed she’d rather be in Boston
-Confessed that some of the reasons she’d be applying to the Boston area was due to the handsome guys on The Social Network, and that Boston just sounds cool. Haha
-Refused to apply to Ivy Leagues, because she wants to do her graduate studies at an Ivy League, not undergrad.

That’s something about the Social Network movie, because all of the good looking guys in the movie were purposefully shown as total a-----s.

I’m not gonna apply to Tufts because it reminds me of a “tuft” of fur, and that just weirds me out

I refuse to apply to Barnard because I hate feminists-- and yes I know that just because people go there it doesn’t make them a feminist, but I got that idea into my head and it won’t leave ;P

I won’t apply to Colgate because I think Crest is far superior as a toothpaste. seriously.

Bucknell sounds like a hillbilly name to me (like “bucktooth” or something… as you can see, I make really weird negative word associations ;P)

I want to apply to UChicago because Edward Cullen was born in Chicago. But my mother found out and keeps calling my crazy and won’t let me apply

Okay, for grad school, now. Here’s all of the reasons I applied to the grad schools I did:

I applied to Georgia Tech, because IT’S GEORGIA TECH!!

I applied to Auburn because of the FOOTBALL!!

I applied to UC Davis because I go there right now.

I applied to Cal Poly because it’s cheap.

I applied to San Jose State as a backup to Cal Poly.

I applied to Santa Clara University because it looked nice.

I didn’t apply to Reed because the theatre building is ugly.

I didn’t apply to Dickinson because everyone in my school cracked jokes at that college’s name.

I DON’T WANT to apply for any schools in North Carolina, because I hate it here (I live here) and I’m annoyed by a southern accent. Also I like UNC Charlotte more than Chapel Hill, because I live in Chapel Hill, it’s pretty boring for a college town, and it’ll just remind me of going to High School, which is pretty much the biggest crap ever. My parents are making me apply because it is cheap.

I’m basically not applying anywhere in the South due to the accent besides MAYBE Emory because a lot of people from the North go there, and I actually liked Atlanta compared to other Southern cities.

I already have like 6 schools that start with the letter B on my possible college list, and I’m trying to lower that number because it seems weird. Babson, Bentley, Boston University, Bryant…ok so 4. Guess I won’t minimize that list then?

Thinking about applying to some large publics just because I want to meet old friends from where I used to live and I know SOMEONE will go to these schools because all these people do is party all day now.

Someone told me that they wanted to apply to Harvard because it looked so nice in the Social Network. The problem is that the movie wasn’t filmed at Harvard. It actually was filmed at Johns Hopkins because Harvard doesn’t permit filming on campus.
