lol. First, I am not at all sure if the majority of the Chinese scientists/engineers were educated in USA or not. Seems unlikely to me though. Even if it is true, are u then saying that Americans educated in US are not as smart as the Chinese educated in the US?
hahah! This is getting hilarious!
But wait a min, this may be true!
Look at
[IQ and Global Inequality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](IQ and Global Inequality - Wikipedia)

I am going to add a sixth item.

Fastest supercomputer in the world.

Manned space flight and lunar exploration.

Anti satellite kinetic weapons.

Anti aircraft-carrier ballistic missiles (first in the world).

Fifth generation stealth fighter J-20 (second in the world after F-22).

Largest creditor in the world (vs USA the largest debtor!)

Well a couple of things we need to consider in china’s case, with over 1,300,000,000 more people than the US it’s inevitable to say they are going to have more brains than the US. A more disturbing realization is that while China as a whole is becoming immensely wealthy, to the US’s downfall, is that in actuality, over 800 million chinese people are living in immense poverty. That’s almost 3x the entire US population. China’s “harmonization” or filtering of the internet to ensure “Harmony” doesn’t appease me much either. With many regimes, the government forces the brain works of its people out, examples include the might Soviet Union, in which Math olympiad was created, Iran and it’s physics program, China as you mentioned, and many other regimes.

If you want to be proud of that accomplishment, by all means do, the US however doesn’t find those causes worth the lives and immense suffering.

The most prestigious University in the world would be the result of a contest between Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Cambridge.

I see a lot of people on this thread making a fuss about IIT, I wonder how they define the word “prestige” and how IIT has it more than the five schools I have listed. For example, graduates from Harvard and MIT’s MBA program have starting salaries in the range of $120,000. How does IIT measure up here? I can’t believe my eyes and ears, on page.1 of this thread, someone actually said that IIT applicants apply to Harvard as a safety school, in case they don’t get into IIT; what? Harvard= Most ranked #1 University in the world, Correct me if I’m wrong but Harvard has been associated with 74 Nobel Laureates, and has been ranked #1 University in the world over 30 times by different ranking systems.

Please don’t make me go into the other schools, or get into details such as in inventions, patents, Turing awards, or I may end up posting the longest post in CC’s history.

Since i didn´t comment the itt thing i feel free to say the following
ok on this thread many people are wrong about the content. They think everybody here defines the headline incorrectly. Let me repeat the headline: “What’s the hardest/ most prestigious university in the world?”. We´re not only discussing about the most prestigious university although many people think so. But they are wrong as well and are not able to define the content correctly.

I am heartily enjoying how ignorant you all are about Caltech.

Caltech is the world’s premiere scientific institution. It is the hardest to graduate from, the hardest to get into, and the most rigorous scientific training on the planet.

No, we don’t have the lowest admission rate. Why? Because we don’t do affirmative action, and so many people are scared off that we have ::the highest SAT scores in the world:: that we have a self selecting pool.

The only issue is that most people are stupid and don’t know as much about it as they should. But ask any serious scientist, and their jaw drops when they hear you go to caltech.

How is Caltech the best school in the world? How is it unique? Schools like Cal, Harvard, MIT and Stanford are just as good in the hard sciences, half a dozen universities (including Cal, MIT and Stanford) are as strong in Engineering. But beyond that, how does Caltech distinguish itself? It is non-existant in the Humanities and with the exception of Economics, is a non-entity in the Social Sciences. It has no Business, Law or Medical school, nor does it have speciality programs such as Arhitecture, International Relations, Journalism, Music, Nursing, Pharmacy etc…

Don’t get me wrong, I have a great deal of respect for Caltech. I would say it is one of four universities (the other three being Cal, Chicago and Columbia) that immediately follow HYPSM. But I just feel that it is too much of a “niche” program for it to be considered the best school in the world.

To me, that honor would go to either Harvard or Stanford, and it has nothing to do with their brand name but with their academic versitality. Both schools excel in virtually every field of study.

What?!? Nobody put MGU? I don’t know about the IIT, but I would suspect it’s very hard. Most of the people I know who graduated from uni in Africa, India, Pakistan, and Russia are extremely knowledgeable and creative. The only reason they aren’t making tons of money is that (a) they don’t have visas to free countries and (b) their countries are in part or in large part run by thugs.

Or, they have connections and they’re making tons of money but they’re not on the Fortune 500 because it’s just so Anglo-American-centric.

Running Harvard Business School, that’s where. Go, IIT!

They are all over the world, running everything from some of the world’s largest banks to film companies to car companies to managing the governments of states that are larger than most European countries.

Some of them are still waiting outside of the Embassy of the United States for their visa, sent by Microsoft, to go to work.

^^If they’re in Harvard it shows they prefer Harvard for their graduate school, and that clearly shows Harvard is more respectable, and Mcdonald University? ■■■■■ much?

This rant about IIT is so true. I’m Indian and I have a cousin back in India, who’s in 9th grade or 10th grade, I think… He spends every waking minute of his life trying to get into IIT. His parents are blowing serious amounts of cash on tuition to get into IIT. Yes, it might be a good school, but it is one of the best in India, not the world. MIT, etc are much much better (for obvious reasons)

Having finished a degree at a top foriegn school and on a job market, I can tell you know foreign school compares to american top 20 in terms of pedigree. There is a strong location bias, which schools are the most prestigious in their own country. However, top firms recruit from a very select few schools, usually the top institutionsin the countries they have operations, then almost all firm recruit from the ivy league, top 5 liberal arts schools and random assortment of public schools. Of course a lot of jobs pedigree doesn’t really matter, but in things like Consulting or Investment banking etc.

In terms of being hardest to get into, it has to be Cambridge university.Harvard comes in at a close number two while Oxford takes the number three spot. The best university is Oxford though(that’s my opinion).
