I would like to hear your thoughts on this new article that was recently published by an ex-Yale professor. Do you agree with the writer's views on some of the issues regarding the input needed for college acceptance, as well as the output?

I agree with his description of the students that populate the most elite schools.
However, I disagree in that I don’t see that as a problem for myself, pragmatism in my opinion is a very valuable trait to have to succeed in life and I pride myself upon it. In fact I feel like their description of students at elite colleges fits me pretty well, except that I don’t pretend to not be facading to my peers as of now; that’s a trait that I’ll have to pick up to network better.

If one wants to see students more interested and passionate in learning I’d agree that LAC’s are a better option, but I don’t really like the type of more idealistic people that go there.

It’s a question of what you want and what type of people you want to live with for 4 years.

It’s definitely not a one-size fits all solution, so in fact I believe for many students elite and exclusive schools are the best option.

For me personally I like some of the elite schools (maybe the “chiller” ones among them like brown and Stanford sort of Columbia (many friends there)!and ok with the Mildly geeky ones like MIT and Carnegie Mellon) and large state schools (like UCLA and UC Berkeley). Yale is the one elite school I despise, I actually like Harvard’s open acceptance of arrogance, better to be arrogant and open about it then arrogant and pretend not to be (in my opinion).

Again it comes back to what schools one best fits in with, both in a personality and life/career goals. No one can declare that elite schools are good or bad, it’s an individual thing.

This is the fourth thread on CC on this article. I am on my phone otherwise would give you link to the main one.
