@mastermargarita, fitting name. :]

It’s actually a reference to Mikhal Bulgakov’s masterpiece “The Master and Margarita” but I do love margaritas as well.

Just not tequila shots. Too old for that. Did too many at JHU.

Labellelune,

I’m sorry you don’t take the energy to go out and meet people and have fun. Yes, there work is hard, but I assure you on a friday / saturday night (and most other nights of the week) there are plenty of kids partying / having fun / hanging out on their floor. Of course you can just hang out in your room, but that is by no means what most people do. Social life here isn’t exactly the best in the world (it’s no state school) but it certainly is fun and the people here are great.

I have read this thread and though I think I know the answer, I just wanted to get opinions from those very familiar with the school.

I am a junior in HS and trying to decide where to apply. I am looking for a school where there are studious like-minded people in a collaborative environment. I’m a bit shy but still like to have fun hanging out with friends. I do not drink and frankly have no desire to do so. I swim competitively and would be on the varsity team (20+ hours a week). I am not the brightest bulb in the pack but make up for it by being a diligent student. (2020 SAT, 3.78 nonweighted GPA -several AP’s).

Thoughts?

JHU attracts people of all types. For every student like me, there is a student like you. You will find your niche.

In addition to what MasterMargarita said, I personally find it refreshing to interact and have fun with people who have a different outlook on life than I do. There’s people of all types here and I’d feel like I wasn’t taking advantage of some of the special things that Hopkins has to offer if I only hung out and made friends with people who think like I do.
