Whats up with the Ob Parents Council Letter?

Well, I definetely didn't get that letter from oberlin and neither did my parents...I hope this isn't auspicious...I really want to go to the conservatory, but it's insanely competitive.

Did you apply to the college as well? It seems that only the college is sending these letters out, not the conservatory.

I didn't get the letter however, mail takes forever to get here so I dunno. I have already gotten my financial aid estimate, a course catalog, a letter confirming reciept of my app, letter from psychology professor, and also a letter from the guy in charge of presenting my appliction. I was an MVP student so I think that made a difference as far as the financial aid estimate

oh, I only applied to the conservatory. I geuss it's all cool then.

Thanks one and all - constructive repsonses. So what I'm hearing is
Oberlin IS a wonderful, caring community, they're probably sending these letters to most applicants to incrase their yield, but it does not in any way indicate a probable outcome!

I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed!

yeah, i got a course book and a letter from an Admissions director that said "I am pleased, given all your options, that you have chosen to apply to Oberlin" then it has a paragraph on how great oberlin is and ends with saying that that person will be responsible for my app in committee and that i should contact them if i have any questions (it has an original signature). is this just a hey-i-got-your-app-and-will-read-it notification that is sent to everyone?

ak72889: my daughter got the same letter from an admissions director

yea i got that letter in the mail about a week back

My D applied to Oberlin, and we got that letter, too. We also got the thing which states that we needed to provide tax returns/non-custodial parent returns (like I have any control over that!).

Everything's sent on this end, at least that I know of....from what I'm seeing here, this is just a standard letter they send to all of us?

I also got a coursebook, and I was hoping it a positive sign... but it's probably not. Is it ordinary for colleges to send out coursebooks this early though? I mean, they spent a couple of dollars sending it to just one person (me) and I'm guessing that it's quite a hassle.

My daughter was admitted to Oberlin ED; she rec'd no earlier letters other than a notice that they'd gotten her application.

There is a very simple reason for that: those admitted in the ED rounds have already promised that they will attend Oberlin. The school is still marketing itself to the RD applicant pool. Wait until April - they will sell themselves even more vigorously to those who have been accepted and have until May 1 to make up their minds.

I got both coursebook and parent contact list, and was accepted by early write.

Congratulations, kman. I hear that they do not do a lot of early writes, so they must really want you to attend. You will probably getting a T-shirt and an invitation to the All Roads Lead to Oberlin program in short order (if what they have done in the past couple of years is any indication.)

An early write is when a school tells a Regular Decision applicant that they have been accepted well ahead of the normal notification date. It means that the decision was an easy and obvious one for the admissions committee.

I don't remember getting any letter to us as parents. My son did get an e-mail from his admissions person complimenting his essay.

kman

Congratulations! Do you mind sharing your stats?

congrats! im getting nervous coz i now know oberlin has early writes !
is there anyway to check if the college notifies decisions early?

I actually don't think Oberlin has early writes. At least, I've been involved with the admissions process for many years, and I've never heard of it.

i got in w/ early write,, and never got this letter!!

I'm in too...and was worried because I didn't get the letter
