What's wrong with the American education system, summed up in one text message

<p>"What’s wrong with the American education system’ - is that we are still using pints/quarts in school.</p>

<p>And don’t you love buying fabric? Inches, yards, fractions of yards…
I heard once we got stuck with it because of the tooling for car and airplane parts–it was just too expensive to change over.</p>

<p>Atomom–My D when in 3rd grade had a math problem that read
"You have 10 marbles and you give some to your brother–how many do you have left?
She wrote 9 (she’d only give him one). The answer was supposed to be 5 according to the book but that assumed sharing the marbles.
It was a poorly written question obviously. And that’s what’s wrong–she thought more about the answer than the educators did about the question.</p>

<p>It is hard to believe that a college level chem course does not use the metric system!!</p>
