<p>Do you learn better by teaching yourself the material, or actually going to class and listening to the professor/classmates?</p>
<p>Based of my first year, I would say I'm a mix of the two. For math it was a combo of me teaching myself and going to class because there were certain things that I didn't understand that only the teacher could help me understand.</p>
<p>A bit of both. </p>
<p>I go to lecture and take notes/record lecture, then go over my notes and lecture recording at home. Things fly out of my head during lecture and I will literally forget a lot of important info quickly, so I often have to review lecture notes at home, where everything is quiet and I can concentrate better. I have a hard time concentrating when there’s any noise around. </p>
<p>Some classes, I can teach myself the material. I took an online intro to computer science course at my JC and it was so damn easy. I didn’t even need to read the textbook assigned for the course to do the exams.</p>
<p>I am a very visual/audio learner, all I really have to do is watch and listen to lectures and I can remember the material…I still write important stuff down just in case.</p>
<p>I’ve never been a self-learner. I usually do best when I sit and watch a lecturer and do the material myself; for instance, I learn best when I watch the teacher solve a math problem on board and do it myself after she does. I also learn well if I keep doing practice problems. For English on the other hand, I don’t really need to watch lecture, although, it would help expand my thoughts and bring in new ideas.</p>
<p>I’d say I’m a little of both. It really depends on the material being taught to me. Math for instance, I need to be in the classroom and watch the teacher or else I’m lost, but usually once I see it done I can do it right after. I just have a problem of forgetting how to do it later on in the day when I have homework. x.x</p>
<p>I’m not really big on ‘self motivation’. If it’s something I’m interested in, I can get absorbed enough into the material to learn it inside and out. Otherwise, I don’t care enough to make myself do it. It takes a professor to teach me anything about math or science. </p>
<p>So yeah, both, I guess.</p>
