What's your reason for transferring?

I'm a prospective transfer student and the wait is killing me, so I figured I'd make a thread so we can all talk about our current university/college, situation and reasons for wanting to transfer while we wait for our decisions.

Are you dissatisfied with your current program?
Does another university have a different/stronger program?
Dislike the surrounding environment?
Dislike the overall student body attitude?
Want to be closer/farther from home?
Is it too expensive where you're attending?
Where are you applying to?
etc.

the wait to transfer is killing me too! i have to wait a year! I am a student at csu stanislaus and it is so boring over here. I am not getting the college experience at all!

7 applications out, as well as a Gilman scholarship still out there…no clue where I will be this summer or next year. Hopefully somewhere else…

I wish I applied to William and Mary…completely slipped my mind and missed the deadline. Would have loved to be in their IR joint degree program with St. Andrews.

I’ve got another year ahead of me too. I’m currently a freshman at Western Michigan University and I’m not really enjoying it here at all. I don’t like the students or the town, and I don’t feel like I’m being challenged very much academically. I’d like to transfer after my sophomore year to UMich or NYU for business and/or english.

Are you dissatisfied with your current program?
God, yes. I’m taking the most advanced classes I can, just so I can be in a class with people who legitimately care about the subject.

Dislike the surrounding environment?
YES. I never imagined hating a place as much as I hate where I am right now. I know it would be way cheaper for me to stay in-state and go to the flagship, or one of the branch campuses, but I don’t think my sanity could take it.

Dislike the overall student body attitude?
Nobody cares about schoolwork. It’s just “get in, get out.” Then again, I hear it’s like that at all/most community colleges.

Want to be closer/farther from home?
I don’t care about being farther from home, necessarily. I just want to be far away from where I’m at.

Is it too expensive where you’re attending?
Nope, super cheap, which is why I forced myself to stick with it.

Where are you applying to?
John Cabot University in Italy, and (possibly) Franklin College Switzerland. I’m just tired of being in the U.S. right now (not originally from here), and want to go back to Europe. Maybe someday I’ll return, but I’m just burnt out at the moment.

Interesting responses, guys. It’s nice to see some early birds here planning to transfer. Well, it’s good you guys are starting to plan it out now because it’s the perfect time to!

I forgot to add in my 2 cents.

Are you dissatisfied with your current program?
-Not extremely dissatisfied, but I would go for another stronger program if I had the chance to. My school’s strongest points are Business and Engineering, but my interests lie in Communication/Media (not journalism). I’d give the program a 5-6 out of ten in terms of challenge.

Does another university have a different/stronger program?
-Yes, yes, yes. I would love to transfer to USC. I know they have a strong communication program, so it would be great if I can go there.

Dislike the surrounding environment?
-The surrounding town is anything but wonderful. I’ve grown up in rural areas, suburbs and cities, and my least favorite of all was the rural because of general lack of open-minded people and resources, as well. Also, it’s frustrating to be in a small town with low tolerance toward social topics such as LGBTQ, multiculturalism, liberalism, etc. The students here are fine…it’s just the perimeters beyond the school campus and general downtown area, which isn’t that big to start with.

Dislike the overall student body attitude?
-The overall student body isn’t bad at all. There are some who obviously don’t care about school, but it’s really easy to use that to my advantage to stand out more. The general student body here is somewhat driven, but I can use a bit more competition. Too many people who play really hard, but don’t work as hard.

Want to be closer/farther from home?
-Closer is more ideal. My family is going through tough times right now and we just sold our house. It would be good to go back to school on the west coast for family sake.

Is it too expensive where you’re attending?
-It’s expensive, but I will get instate tuition after my second year if I do stay here. My grandparents are helping me pay for tuition, so I owe them big time. I only applied to USC because of the potential grants and scholarships they offer to incoming freshmen and transfer students. So, if I do get in, I hope to get a really good financial aid package that will allow me to negotiate with my grandparent and let me go there.

Where are you applying to?
-Only USC. I was thinking about applying to the University of Michigan, but I’d much rather stay in PA or be in CA than in MI for the next four years.
