are college students supposed to get internships and "good jobs"
[/quote]

Some of them do. Some of them get great internships working with museum curators, scientists, local politicians (just from my friends' experiences).

Are they "supposed" to? Not necessarily. More of my friends are doing restaurant work/bagging groceries/Blockbuster than getting a lab internship.

really easily?

Hahahah. No. It is NOT that easy. First, often times you're in "competition" for these internships/"good jobs" with graduate students, and they are usually preferred. Second, you have to compete with students your own age/undergraduate level, and the choicer the job/internship, the more competitive it is.

Paid internship with NIH, get to stay on campus of UAA for free and get paid to do some research! Also thinking after the 6 weeks is over perhaps getting a job as a CNA at the hospital before school starts.

Working at a local gourmet deli. Kind of crappy pay, and I don't know how many hours I can work, so I might be looking for another job. I need $$$.

paid research assistantship at an excavation in Portugal! Could not be more psyched. Airfare and room and board and paid for, and then some! Oh, and then after that's done, food service!!!

I've been a slacker so I'm just looking for a job now (read that as life got in my way so I had no time to look for a job until I got home a week ago, then got sick, so am just now able to deal with the job mess). Will apply to Kohls, and some other stores (assuming they're hiring). Thinking of checking if Barnes and Noble, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Aeropostale are hiring. I applied a couple months ago online for Old Navy, but have never heard anything, so guess that's out.

Mediocreme- I wouldn't suggest Starbucks unless you want to spend your summer working at 4-ish AM. Doesn't really matter if you say you aren't available b/c you'll probably be scheduled anyways. Just a warning. The barely-decent money isn't worth it.
