I have a question about official visits. I am interested in swimming D3/low D1 (senior this year) and the recruiting director at my top choice said that he ran out of official visits to give out during the ED/EA period. Does this actually happen, or have I thrown my ED to a school that doesn’t want me enough?

Have never heard of “running out of Oficial Visits”. Remember Official Visits are only if the college pays for your transportation, food and/or entertainment. You certainly can visit the school (paying your won way) and set it up with the coach to stay with a player and meet with the coach. If the college coach is reluctant at this point he/she may have run out of athletic $$, or have no more influenced spots/tips sway with admissions, and/or perhaps they have already filled their recruiting class. However, if this is your #1 choice and you really want to go to this school, then go make an unofficial visit and meet with the coach and ask him/her some very pointed questions regarding your recruitiment so you know exactly where you stand. Hang in there and make your visits, but make sure you have some serious discussion with the coaches on the phone before you go so you know exactly where you fit in their recruiting class or not. Best of luck.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’ve already gone down to meet the coach (I live in MA, so it was not too much of a hassle) for an unofficial visit. He told me over the phone that he had just run out of trips available to him, which made it seem like he had run out of money to get me on a trip. I made it evidecnt that I would apply ED1, and I have a good relationship with him so hopefully it will be enough

I am a rower parent.
This thread was gold. Thanks for everyone who posted info!

In our experience the coaches offer OVs at various times. My kid received his first (in a paper letter, very official-looking) from HYP about July 3rd. He received several more over the next month (another was paper letter, the other three were email) and the latest came August 8th or so. I understand there are still other schools who are inviting, and it will continue until all fall visits are booked.

Any experience with men’s tennis OVs at the ivies or nescacs?
