My guidance counselor doesn’t really know who I am, let alone my race because I look super mixed.
I listed half White-other:Catalonia on my college apps.
I go to school in the U.S.
I put Catalonia under “white” instead of Hispanic because I am definitely not Hispanic, and although Catalonia is a part of Spain, we want independence and consider ourselves autonomous.
I AM NOT HISPANIC AND DID NOT CHECK THE HISPANIC BOX, but I’m worried that the admissions officer might think that I’m trying to game the system and imply that I’m Hispanic by listing Catalonia, which is technically in Spain still and call up my counselor who literally has no clue about who I am.
Sorry if this is a stupid worry, but I’m kind of freaking myself out over this that I’m going to get rejected over this.
Do you think it’ll be fine because I did not check the Hispanic box, so i’m not lying? I just don’t want them to think i’m trying to game the system or anything.
If they are unfamiliar with Catalonia and want to know more, they will look it up. But you are not half white. You are white. Catalonian is not a different race. It doesn’t matter if Catalonia considers itself autonomous. It’s part of Spain. If anything, they might wonder why you didn’t list dual nationality, becasue I assume you hold a Spanish passport. Otherwise, you are just American.
It’s not important.
@Lindagaf Yes I know Catalonian is not a diff race. I am half Filipino, half white.
Catalonia is Spain, despite what Catalonians separatists think. Just like Texas is USA, no matter what those cowboy secessionists think.
I am confused then. Did you specify that you are half Asian also? If not, then you should email them to clarify.
@Lindagaf yes i did! Asian and white! i’m just worried about Catalonia not being truly independent part yet
This is not an issue.
@MaelstromMonkey Yea but I never indicated Hispanic ever on anything. I am not Hispanic or a trying to play the system. I’m not suddenly going to check the box for college. (Probably only my great ancestors of like the 1800s were Spanish IDK wasn’t the Philippines colonized by Spain like 200 years ago, and my mother is sooo white and only a forth Catalonian so that would morally not qualify me to check the box). I’ve ALWAYS considered myself half-Asian, half-white. Heck, I even I identify as Filipino 80% of the time, cuz my hair is dark.
And Catalonia is NOT Texas. They are having a referendum vote in 2017.
Why would they think you’re trying to game the system when you’re checking off the box that has the least advantages?
@bubblepop12444. realize that you did not list the part about being half Asian in your initial post and that’s the only reason we were confused.
The part about Spain/Catalonia will not matter because you identify culturally as half white, and racially you ARE half white. No one will think you are gaming the system because, if there are any admissions advantages to be had, it would be in identifying as part Hispanic.
We are agreeing with you, but you don’t seem to realize that!
That makes you 1/8th Spaniard. Don’t you think this is really a stretch when you’re arguing that Catalonia shouldn’t even be part of Spain?
@MaelstromMonkey “Catalonia is Spain, despite what Catalonians separatists think. Just like Texas is USA, no matter what those cowboy secessionists think.”
PREACH IT
thats what im talking about but some of the users are getting mad. lindagaf is saying im telling lies like wut? catalunia is spain and we cant ignore it.

Repetitive threads are not allowed. The issue of Catalonian independence is a red herring and has no bearing on the question. Closing.
