When Do You Obtain Financial Aid Money?

I previously read somewhere around August 26th.
But checking when tuition is due, you need the money about ten days beforehand.

Is that really when you are given any financial aid money? If so, I'm going to be a little late on the payments then.

Don’t worry too much about the dates. It’ll all work out in the end and you won’t be late, assuming its all Vanderbilt merit/need based aid or loans you’re referring to, and you pay your part on time.

My part? You mean the student contribution? Isn’t that something you work off during the year?

No, I mean whatever your parents are paying.

So if I have zero to pay…?

It shouldn’t make a difference.

I am very confident I am correct about all this, but you should confirm with the Office of Student Accounts (http://www.vanderbilt.edu/stuaccts/</a>).

You are able to deduct your pending financial aid from the bill that you owe. Isn’t the pending aid on your bill? It always was for my D … the bill would list all aid that could be deducted from the amount owed, and they told us what we owed net of aid.

You can only deduct grants and scholarships. You cannot deduct work study, as this is just money you “can” earn by working in an eligible work study job … you need to get the job, work, and then get paid like you would for any other job. If you do plan to take out an unsubsidized Stafford loan to help pay your bill, you would have to contact the financial aid office to ask how to go about getting that loan.

Remember that you only get one-half your annual awards per semester.
