As of now, the CSS Profile that is online is still for 2009-2010, which was last admissions cycle. I read somewhere that said the Profile is not available until the FAFSA is, on Jan 1, 2010, but on Yale's web, it says the Profile is due on Nov. 1. So my question is, when exactly does the CSS Profile come out? In time for SCEA's deadline?

Thanks!

This IS the 2009-2010 admissions cycle though…unless you meant 2008-2009 ;)

Thanks for replying! Actually, on their web, it says the application that has been up is 2009-2010 and it says “Click here to register for and complete your PROFILE Online Application for 2009 - 2010. You should file this application if you are entering or returning to college in the fall of 2009 or the spring of 2010”. But, I’m HS class of 2010 so not going to college until Fall 2010. Any ideas? Thanks!

Yeah, actually, the year of the CSS profile is in reference to the year for which you will request aid, not for the current year. (We '10ers will be filling out the 2010-2011 version of CSS in the fall.)

I’m not 100% sure of this, but I think the new CSS profile comes out in October every year. If, however, I’m wrong, we’ll just have to fill out the '09-'10 version for SCEA, and then the '10-'11 version for real afterwards, but this seems slightly farfetched because CSS does cost money.

I do know one thing, however, and that is that Yale’s financial aid website hasn’t been updated for the new admission season. So, wait around for correct dates and stuff.

Well, last year the CSS profile came out in Oct so I’m guessing that’s when it comes out every year. So I’m thinking for SCEA you fill that out and if you get accepted, they’ll give you an estimated financial aid package based on your CSS profile. Then, once the FASFA comes out in Jan, you’ll have to fill that out and then get your final financial aid package later in the spring.

For your class, you will fill out the 2010-2011 CSS profile, since those are the years in which you will need the aid. For applying SCEA to Yale, you will need to send in the CSS by November 3 in order to get an estimate in December (if you are accepted). That’s how it worked last year, at least.

Yeah, for SCEA they give estimates with your acceptance letter, then you fill out FAFSA in Jan. and then in April they send you your real package. That’s generally why SCEA people would wait to accept Yale until May…so they can compare finaid packages.

Alright, that clears it up - October it is then. Thanks for the help everyone!

2010-2011 CSS profile is up on college board now. For Yale SCEA, what and how we should send to them (real profile using 2008 tax return?, send it electronically or mail?)?

College board website said that once you have submitted your application with the profile, you cannot change any of the data online.

What you do in early action for financial aid is only an estimate since you would be using 2008 data. You actually don’t have to do it until the RD date (February 7th?) when you use your 2009 tax information. You just won’t get an estimate in December if you’re accepted. I called and they said it was no problem to wait. If you do it early, you will have to send Yale an update to get your actual number.
