Tried to log on to college board IDOC service to download forms etc. Entered in SS# & birthdate but message pops up and says no SS found.
Does D have to wait for an email with some IDOC code because the tax forms etc are due in 2 weeks.
Anyone able to log in?

Yes, you need to wait for an email with instructions from IDOC. One of the schools my D applied to is Mt. Holyoke, and on their website they say that IDOC will be available starting Feb. 5. That will give you time to follow their directions for sending document images. I just wonder, what about people without scanners or whatever? In some ways, snail mail is easier if it means hunting down the technology needed. That gets expensive FAST!

Last year and the year before - I mailed a copy of our tax return and W-2 forms to IDOC - we did not scan anything - we used snail mail. Are you saying it has changed? My understanding is that we mail documents to IDOC - THEY scan it into their system and then it is available to the colleges who use this system to view the scanned images.

I just looked at the IDOC site - nothing has changed from last year - we still mail everything to them - tax return, w-2s, cover sheet, etc. They are very specific with their instructions - because they will be scanning the documents - no staples or paper clips - one w-2 per page, etc.

Thanks rockvillemom. I assumed that IDOC would want everything electronically - and that was the reason to have to wait for an email with instructions. Common App done online, FAFSA and CSS/Profile done online, I just figured IDOC would definitely be collecting documents online as well! Now I can breathe a sigh of relief.

Rcvd IDOC e-mail today.

^Rec’d IDOC email today too. Be careful. It comes to your email from CB w/subject “your Next Step for Financial Aid”. Easy to ignore or delete.

We still haven’t received the IDOC email. Is it sent from College Board with a specific college name attached? Three of the schools my D applied to use IDOC. Will she get 3 different emails? Other than snail mailing documents to them and they scan the material and send it to the schools, I’m not sure how it works.

It looks like we still haven’t received this email yet either. I just had my DS double-check but it is not here yet. He has 2 schools that use IDOC.

No. It is general for all colleges that use IDOC. The email contains instructions to logon. Once you login, you see further instructions.

You don’t actually need the e-mail to use IDOC - as you simply login with your child’s SS# and birthdate. But it seemed like it would not work before the e-mail was sent. Once you log in - just print the Cover Sheet - print the non tax filer certification if your child did not earn enough income in 2010 to file a tax return - and just follow the assembly directions. It really takes only a few minutes - just a copy of your tax return and W-2s; child’s tax return and w-2s, cover sheet on top. You mail to an address in IL. Just make sure tax return is signed, don’t staple anything, fill in the cover sheet correctly - really - after FAFSA and CSS Profile - this is the easiest step.

I don’t expect that IDOC will let us upload scanned documents this year.
This has been on my wish list for 2 years.

Rockvillemom-- I just went to the site and it is asking for an id number + birth date and ss#. Where did you see that it only needed 2 numbers. I assume the id# is what will be emailed to us (D).

You only need 2 of the 3. I was able to log in with just SS# and birthdate.

I just went back and checked - it states “Please enter exactly 2 of the following”. And then you have 3 choices - ID #, SS# and birth date.

I just checked and was able to log in despite never receiving the email.

Not sure I agree with this!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. If only I had READ the instructions thoroughly! Yes, I was able to get on the site. Where would I be without this community?
