When is the initial reading over?

For EA applicants, does anyone know around when the initial reading (by regional officers) is over?

I believe the full committee meetings begin after Thanksgiving, so everyone’s file will have probably been read by at least two admissions officers by then.

So when should international students (in areas with limited interviews) expect to be contacted for interview offers?

No one can guess. It’s a likelihood that you’ll not be contacted whatsoever – so why worry about something you can’ t control?

@ gibby: wow, less than 14 days to ready however-many-thousand applications, i don’t envy the harvard adcoms @_@

actually, i have a question of my own: what exactly happens in the initial readings? does going to the full committee meetings mean that your application isn’t that strong in some way?

From what I’ve heard, it depends on the college. For some colleges, the strongest candidates are taken to committees, and the admitted students are selected from that pool. At other colleges, the strongest candidates and weakest candidates are determined after the two readings. Then the people in the middle are discussed in the committee. Who knows what Harvard does…

~2 weeks ago during a call to make sure my materials were there(2 weeks after interview & 3 after submit) someone on the phone made a comment on the strength of my app. Is this just bs or have they read my app?
